"safety fast shooting" kit for BHP from C&S

Does anyone have any experience with the "safety fast shooting" kit form Cylinder & Slide? One of the smiths at my local shop showed me a flier on it thinking I might be interested in putting one on a BHP. I know I've seen someone mention it but I have no idea as to the safety, usefulness, etc. of this item. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

An elegant answer to a question no sane man would ask.

What's the utility? The BHP was designed to be cocked and locked. I don't see any real drawbacks except that the added parts and complexity give Mr. Murphy more stuff to cause problems with.

I understand C&S does fabulous work, but I'd never have this modification done to my weapon.

This month's Combat Handguns covers the 1911 version installed in a Kimber. He does cover the differences between it and the BHP kit, IIRC. VL

G50AE,

Yes they have it for the 1911 and the BHP. Info on their web site.

VictorLouis,

Thanks. I'll hunt down a copy.

Morgan,

Well put. Best case it sounded like a solution looking for a problem. We'll see. Certainly has chin scratching appeal.

Thanks to all for the responces.

As mentioned above, I think it's a "terrific solution to a non-existent problem".

The only thing I can think of is to make it "look" safer to people that get nervous around a cocked and locked pistol.

You'll never see one on my Hi-Power!

I played with a hi-power with one of the kits installed when Laughridge was set up at the Tulsa gun show a year or so ago. I was impressed with it and I'm sure that it works well but I would never put one in one of my pistols. Nothing against it, but I am perfectly comfortable carrying a cocked and locked pistol and I see no reason for it. I think that it's just a way to market a product to a target consumer who sees condition one carry as unsafe.

I can see one potential niche market:

law enforcement agencies are sometimes now not allowing SA-only semi-autos as duty or off-duty pieces due to the fact that you have to carry cocked and locked. Remember, cops interact daily with non-gun folks, some of them hard-core idiots, who would be frightened/intimidated by that nasty evil hammer sitting there just ready to go off.

This modification MIGHT make the m1911 and BHP available for them.

BTW- two questions:

1. Is it a permanent modification to the gun, or can it be 'undone?'

2. Does it make the safety harder to flick off?

FN tried something like this years ago and called it "Fast Action". Think some were actually T&Ed in the USAF pistol trials of late 70s and early JSSAP trials; did very poorly. Maybe C&S have worked the bugs out? They say they have fired 10K rounds with no problems...

BA, Daewoo had one like it too call the tri-fire or something like that.

Coronach, the safety felt about like mine. It clicked off and the hammer popped back. I do not put up with those mushy safeties on amy of my HP's. Positive click going both ways.

I agree with the posters who wouldn't want one on their HP. Condition one is safe and simple. I have a CCW and so carry concealed. Therefore, no fear of someone "getting nervous" as they will never see my HP, unless it's in action. :)
