Safe wait times

I did my research and ordered a semi-custom safe* from a local very reputable seller. That was back in January. The original estimate was delivery by the end of February, but they have been so slammed with orders that delivery is now projected for end of April/beginning of May. The safes are manufactured in California and shipped east. It's no big deal, the safe is what I wanted and for a good price.

Is the market for safes running at the same level of urgency as the market for guns, or is my seller's situation an anomaly?

Our local manufacturer, Rhino Metals, says that they're experiencing at least a six week lead time on off the shelf safes, so I'd say that the safe guys are also seeing a manufacturing/sales crunch, too.

I bought one in early March out of dealer stock because I didn't want to wait a couple of months for a special order. Fortunately, the dealer wasn't charging crazy prices.

Was in Bass Pro today and noticed that they only had 2 safes on the floor. Usually they have 8 to 10 safes on the floor.

I've been working 15 hour days. It's been busier than normal for the last 4 years. It has certainly picked up more to go hand in hand with the rush on guns.

As far as handgun safes go, I can't build them fast enough. Locks and holsters have been just trickling in compared to the amounts I am ordering to meet demand. It is getting better and for me, I hope to be caught up on backorders this month. People have been very patient and have waited from 4 to 8 weeks for their order during the Gun-O-Rama.

I think the worse is behind me as I have ramped up my production and seems the same with my suppliers that got caught off guard and playing catch-up every since Sandy Hook.
