Safe to use a bore brush in a Beretta Elite barrel?

I dug my Elite out of the safe tonight to pop off a few rounds at the range...man I don't know why I've been not using this 9mm more...

Anyhow, I think I remember on the old defunct Beretta board(it is still defunct isnt it?) someone saying never use a metal, brass, copper brush on the Elite barrel because it is chromed lined....true? It might all be a bunch of hooey but to be safe I used on of my nylon Glock brushes.

Thumbs up or down on this?

all berettas (exept ones with stainless barrels) have chrome lined bores. but a lot of other guns also have chrome lined bores. it's fine to use a brass brush on the bore. i'm not sure why glock gives a plastic brush with their guns. i think i've heard that plastic brushes are easier on the bore but don't do as good a job. most likely it was just cheaper for glock :-).

actually i just dug out my 92G Elite and the barrel says stainless on the top of it. i can't tell what color it used to be since the whole gun is hard chromed but the bore isn't even chromed on yours. its stainless steel. you might also like to know that your stainless steel barrel is 30% stronger than the ones that come on bruniton finished berettas.

Don't worry about damaging a chrome bore with a brass, bronze or copper brush. The chrome lining is far harder than any of those metals, harder even than the barrel metal to which it is applied. I've used brass on chrome for many years with no ill effects.

oh yeah i forgot to mention that the chrome bore isn't just chrome but hard chrome which is either the strongest finish available for guns or up there near the top. so i wouldn't worry about it getting damaged.

IANAE, but I thought the Elites had stainless barrels?

In any case, if you avoid reversing the brush in the bore, you are very, very unlikely to damage the bore with a brass or bronze brush. I would avoid the stainless steel ones. I have tried using the fiber brushes, but they don't seem to get the powder fouling out.

Remember the intended use of the barrel? You shoot material that's alot harder down the tube at ~1000+ fps...it can take a brush, as long as you don't abuse it.

Rob96, on all bruniton model berettas the barrel is made out of carbon steel. the bore on these barrels is hard chormed. on stainless steel beretta barrels the whole barrel is stainless steel and the bore is not chromed.
