Safe Organization (Maximizing The Space To Fit More Handguns)

Today I spent part of the day reorganizing my safe to fit a couple more handguns that I had recently purchased. I had completly run out of room. I had a choice to either remove all the ammo from the safe and store it somewhere else, or empty out the safe and do a little modification. I prefer to keep the ammo in the safe for a couple of different reasons, so that was out. I decided to empty it out. I then cut and installed a half shelf to fit a three gun handgun rack and some accessories on the right side of the safe. I also took one of those little shelf clips and welded a little 1/8" X 1" X 3" piece of steel to it. I then painted a little 1/2" X 2" X 6" piece of wood and screwed it to the shelf clip and clipped it in place. This now holds the rechargable dehumidifier in the upper right hand corner of the safe and frees up a little shelf space. I put a little digital humidity monitor in and a Bullfrog VPCI Rustblocker shield. It turned out well and looks better organized than it ever had been before, but I dont know if I'll be able to fit anything else in there. Has anyone else had to do any modifications or have any ideas to help organize or free up some space in the safe?

Long guns?

Nice job. Makes my safe look like a mess. I gotta do something like that, because all the handguns are getting dinged up just from banging around in the safe......
but where are all the long guns?

I only see a few in there!:D

Same problem. I moved all ammo to a locking Sears stackable tool chest and gained lots of room in the safe. Oh, I also got another safe.

The toolchest is a great idea for the ammo and mags. That would really free up more room for guns!! You do have a nice set up though. I'm on my 3rd safe I bet if I did that I might not have to get another. Great job!!!

Handgun prestentation rack for the range

I spotted the post referencing manaboutracks.com which reminded me of my shooting buddy's birthday. I think he would appreciate a nice holder for his handguns for use at the range that would present handguns on the bench for convenient access.

Since Manabout does not ship to Alaska, I cannot get one of his racks for the birthday gift.

Does anyone know of any other racks that present handguns right-side up for easy access.

I have noticed in my searching that some racks can present the guns upside down or right side up. A rack that did both would be a bonus, as the gun currently being used would be right side up and others (presumably unloaded) could be upside down.

Note: This would not encourage unsafe practices because this is intended for use at the range, where we habitually have 3 to 6 guns with us on any given day and assume that all guns are "go" at all times.

His Birthday is very soon, so quick replies would be most helpful.

I cannot see the pictures (probably my computer) so I cannot tell if you are using these items in you safe.

https://storemoreguns.com/handgun-hangers

I have no financial interest in the company but having been using their products (long and handguns) for years and am satisfied. They work extremely well. More money than I like to pay and if you are mechanicly inclined you might be able to make your own.

Good luck

I really like those gun hangers. I think I'm going to order a 6 pack. ...Oh & I couldn't see the pictures either.

Here's the photo. Its a 10 Gun Greystone Rack with padded storage underneath for the magazines, a three gun rack with open storage underneath where I store my spare barrels, cylinders and tac light, and a three gun rack below. I made a little shelf 1/2" X 3" X 7" piece of painted wood that I attached to one of those little shelf clips. This gave me a little shelf to store the rechargable dehumidifer in the upper rear portion of the safe.

Same song, second verse...

ZebraRanger, I had the same problem; couldn't fit guns into safe due to too much wasted space.

The first thing I did was take out all the shelves and racks. The shelves were too high and wasted a lot of space. I designed racks to fit all the long guns and used the bottom portion of the safe (about four feet or so, depends on how long the long guns). The top portion of the safe is dedicated to shelving. Shelves need only be about six inches high to store handguns, extra scopes, cameras and such. The inside surface of the door on my safe can be pegboarded (I just invented another word, according to my spell check) to store handguns.

Pictures as soon as I can find my cameras and such. I just moved and still am not 'organized'.

Oh. In the file of life's ironies, I can't get my safe into my new house. It's in the garage with all the power tools. I need to reinforce a floor or two.
