SAA - belt holsters...where to find ?

Who's making some of the better...belt holsters...for a Single Action revolver...in good leather..preferably horsehide vs cowhide.

I have my first single action revolver ordered - a large frame Freedom Arms - 4 3/4" octagonal barrel coming in a few weeks..and I haven't been able to find much in the way of a good leather belt holster...not necessarily for concealed carry ...the gun is a little big and heavy for that ( about 56 oz probably - in a 5 shot /lg frame) ...but I want a good belt holster ...not a western style or flap holster.

The gun is only for range / fun ...( its a .357 mag ) ...no scope or red dot is going to go on it ....but I did order it with a fibre optic front sight ..and the premier adjustable rear sight ..if that matters. I want it for "strong side only" - right handed - on a belt ...no crossdraw, or shoulder rigs....and I'd prefer it had a little forward tilt...like a typical Kramer rig - but he isn't making anything for it.

Congrats on the Freedom Arms! Had 2 that I loved dearly but sold to buy groceries and whatnot. You may want to check out Simply Rugged, don't rightly remember if he is set up for Freedoms though.

Hoping for other suggestions ..if anyone has any over next few days ...thanks in advance.

plus one on Old El Paso. Check out the Thomas 3 persons model. Very nice. It is a bonus to have a dedicated belt. Makes strapping it on and off easy. A few extra rounds is kind of handy too. There is a reason the old timers carried their hog legs that way. Big wide belt riding low is comfortable when your handgun is heavy.

El Paso Saddlery...first rate work, tho a bit on the slow delivery side if anecdotal evidence here on the forum can be believed. Rod

Sparks HSR. Doesn't get much better.

I agree - the Milt Sparks HSR is a good clean look .... I think I'm leaning that direction... and Simply Rugged might be my 2nd choice at this point../ although I have checked out all the other suggestions too guys - thanks. ( a lot of them are too " western " for what I want )...

Best I've ever had for my SA Colt was made by Tex Shoemaker. I don't think it was a catalog item, but I called Tex and told him what I needed and he sent it out reasonably soon. I suppose this was at least 15 years ago and it's still as good as new. Tex has been gone for a long time, but the last I knew, the people there were still as helpful as he was. Also have the Bianchi SA belt holster. Good enough holster, just not as fancy as the one I got from Tex...

Should have looked before posting the above. Shoemaker Leather site shows a single action belt holster as a stock item. I'll probably go ahead and order one myself, but it will be the first holster I've ever had with an outside thumb break.

Keep in mind that a large-frame Freedom Arms is NOT a "SAA." SAA is a Colt Model of 1873 "Single Action Army," which is smaller than a Ruger Blackhawk and I'm pretty certain is significantly smaller than a Freedom Arms. If you shop for "SAA" holsters, I believe you're going to be disappointed in what you receive.
