SA or Kimber

Hey Guys How are things going. Well I just started working at a local gun shop and they have a Springfield Custom Loaded 1911-A1 in Black for 700 bucks. (hehehe employee discount and it will be alot lower) Love the way it feels, and for that price it has a few more options then the Kimber Custom II pistol. But I have shot Kimbers before and well I really like this gun. Now with the combined experience of everyone in this forum. Which pistol should I go with and why, also include experiences with customer service, and thoughts on the trigger.
(I am looking for a target pistol, dont have much money now, and can upgrade later. I am also obessed with the quality as well, and might want a good pistol to compete in IDPA someday.)

Thanks!!!
:D

I've been carrying a full size SA Loaded for the past two years. No complaints or malfunctions. The gun is stock save replacing the 2 piece guide rod with a GI plug for ease of field stripping. Topped occasionally with a Ceiner Platinum .22 slide makes for great times at the range.

Bear in mind, mine is an older Loaded without the tritium inserts, dovetailed front sight, and ILS mainspring housing. $700 seems a bit steep--maybe it's Cal?

Everyone says Kimbers are the best 1911s out of the box. I own a Springfield. It was $100 cheaper than the Kimber, and I have no complaints.

Since you work at the shop, I'm sure you'll get a good one (tight lockup, crisp trigger, etc.) regardless of what you buy, and I doubt customer service will be an issue. You can probably make an easy decision based on value (features per dollar) alone.

I got a Kimber as my first gun and I have no complaints. Great gun, fires anything I feed it, and I will be chasing the accuracy of that gun for years.

Oh boy - you probably won't get any responses to this one...

I have never owned a Springfield. I do own 2 Kimbers (5" Classic Stainless & 3" Ultra CDP) and have been happy with my choices. They have performed well - accurately & reliably.

When I decided to go with a full size 1911, I only considered SA and Kimber. Thanks to a good accountant, money was not an option due to a sizable tax return. I went with a Kimber Custom CDP because it's the lightest full size out there, and has good "custom" add-ons.

I have both a SA Loaded and a full size Kimber Target. They are both excellent pistols.

The Kimber is the better of the two in terms of accuracy, trigger, and comfort.

The Kimber is slightly better... I'd say $75 better, but if you're likely to have it worked on anyway, the less expensive Springfield makes sense. It's definitely a good gun. I know plenty of people who own both and several wouldn't bother spending the difference for a Kimber.

The one great reason to get a Kimber is if you get the fully melted down version with night sights and match trigger. These are great features that you can get for less than half the cost of paying a 'smith to do it if you buy it like that from the factory.
