Hello I bought a Springfield 1911 Loaded Model and don't care for the Full Lenth guide rod.Can i just put a spring and plug in this gun? Will it drop right in?I was going to buy from Wilson a Spring and Plug and a Stainless Barrel bushing and put it in the Springfield.Should i buy from someone else? Is there any fitting required? Thanks. 45automan

Hello. Yes, you can just swap your choice of recoil spring guide and bushing. Be aware that there are "drop in" bushings and those that must be fitted. You'll get tighter groups with the fitted bushing, but the drop ins can also shoot very well indeed. Wilson's bushings have been as good as any in my experience. (I don't like the full length guide rods, either.) Best.

I can't tell from your post if you just want a new bushing too but you can replace the plug and rod without replacing the bushing. I did the same thing myself on my Springfield loaded.

Greetings,

If your guide rod is one-piece, consider a two-piece version. They require a hex wrench, but are easier to disassemble and reassemble.

I've just received my SA back from the factory and am more than happy with it. When they reworked the thumb safety and tightened the frame/slide fit, they did great and now the gun is as it should always have been.

I did contemplate putting in a standard GR, but I think I'll stay with the 2p FLGR. I've found that it doesn't take any longer to disassemble than anything else and does seem to make recovery time shorter.

All I do to take the weapoon down is lock back the slide and unscrew the end of the GR, which is never more than hand-tight. Then the slide is slowly let down and I use the end of the GR to depress the plug so I can swing the BB out of the way. It goes very quickly.

I have been considering adding a new bushing simply because the factory one looks weak. Of course, a stainless or chromed bushing would highlight the bore (good psyops), but I wonder about the fitting required and if I could do it myself. I don't want something so tight that a wrench is mandatory for field stripping.
