I was introduced to sa revolvers when I got my ruger single six 22 revolver and have fallen in love with them. I am looking into getting a 357. I have heard ruger blackhawk is good but what are some other suggesttions. I have around $400 to spend ane buying used is a possability.

Thanks for he help

Ruger Blackhawk or Vaquero or the Italian clones all work well, but the Ruger will be the most durable. Most of the clones do not have coil springs like the Ruger but can be easily converted. An action job for around $125.00 is a good idea at some point. There are many choices. For me the 4.62" Blackhawk is a beautiful thing.

If you want fixed sights there are lots of different revolvers on the market.

If you want adjustable sights there are fewer choices.

I would look for a "50th Anniversary Edition" Flattop Blackhawk. It is built on the medium frame which is well proportioned for a .357. The standard production Blackhawk is built on the larger frame. Too bulky for my tastes.

You might have to be patient to find one for $400 but they are out there.

Here is my Black hawk 357/9mm 4 5/8 inch barrel. Best all around revolver I own. Gives me choices of ammo at the range. Plenty accurate enough for plinking and such.
Good luck

If you can get a blackhawk for $400 or less snap it up and don't look back. I you just want something different you could pick up an SAA copy of some make just know that the lower cost SAA copies are a little rough.

I like them both. I do admit though I'd like to see Ruger discontinue the large frame BH .357 and replace it with the medium frame. I too think it is a better fit. That said, as a teen and in my early 20s I carried my large frame .357 all over hill and dale in those years. Fishing and camp gun too. Still have it today and is now my 'test' revolver for .357 loads. Last you a life time and more of shooting fun. Good value for the buck.

It might be worth noting that while the large frame Blackhawk .357 is slightly larger than the medium frame Flattop .357, it is also lighter due to its aluminum alloy grip frame. Further, the balance is (to me) quite different between the two. They are both good and it is true the smaller frame is better "sized" to the ,357 cartridge. Only the larger frame is available as a convertible.
