SA 1911A1 full length guide rod

I just bought a new stainless loaded Springfield 1911A1. I am going to replace the full length guide rod with a regular plug and guide as on the original design. Can I keep the recoil spring that came with the gun or do I need a new one of those too?

The SA recoil spring will work just fine with a standard length guide rod. You might want to check out how far your pistol is throwing the empty cases. If it is much over about 6 feet, try a stronger recoil spring, say 18.5#.
