Smith & Wesson now has their S&W 500 on their X frame.
For years, it has been possible to shhot the frame off their "N" framed .44 Magnum. Why can't S&W make their .41 and .44 Magnums on the X frame? It should be as strong as Ruger's Redhawk
They've announced the .460 S&W on the X frame. It will fire .454 Casull cartridges and .45 Colt as well.
The nbew .460 should be to the .454, what the .44 Mag is to the .44spec.
But back to your original question, they probably haven't done it because pholks like you and me that like the idea have been too lazy to write letters to them and ask for it.
I own 2 Ruger .44's, a Vaquero and a Redhawk, the Redhawk can handle 300 grain +P+. But I'm not satified, like the .460 is another step up from the .454, I like another step up from the .44 but still be able to shoot .44's in it.
To the point, I emailed S&W about this and the possibility of having it built on the X-frame, well they said they forwarded my question to Research and Development and I haven't heard anything back since................................. that was a couple months ago.)
Hopefully, they'll think along those lines sometime in the future, "til then I'll just ahve to shoot my Rugers.
why would I want to carry an "X" frame gun in 41 or 44 mag? the gun is too big for either of these two rounds. an "N" frame is big enough for either of these rounds

An S&W chambered for something like the .455 magnum or something along those lines, that could also shoot .44 mags and .44 specials, would make it neccesary to use an X-frame..
Also if you are into shooting 300 grain or heavier +P or +P+ .44 mag loads, then an X-frame would be nice.
