S&W's don't get more beautiful than this... 19-3 w/4" barrel

Not long ago I was talking with a fellow forum member and he asked me if I might be interested in a NIB model 19-3 pinned and recessed with 4" barrel. Not having a 4" 19, how could I resist? This gun is so flawless and virginal, I'm having a really hard time bringing myself to shoot it, but I think I'm going to have to at least give it a little "warming up." ;)

Aw, man. I had a 19-3 exactly like that, 'cept not as nice cosmetically. It had a butter-smooth trigger and wouldn't shoot for beans. I suspect it had been shot loose by prior owner(s). Sold it to finance a .22 rifle and some gunsmithing work on my other revolvers.

Such a classic, though. That is the "Officer Friendly" gun of my childhood. Would love to try again with a Model 19 that is NIB, or perhaps a police trade-in -- carried much, shot little.

Anyone got any more of these?

Wildalaska.... that's a great idea! I should grab one of the dozen or so sets or cheap rubbers (Hogues) I have in the closet that so many gun sellers seem to be putting on guns they sell - that's so considerate of them, isn't it! Then the gun would really look...... "tactical" !

Hey Dhart,
If you get that offer again, and can't use two, tell them BullRock is an easy touch. ;) Virginal??? That kind of talk drives us old guys crazy...

I have a 4" 19-3 in nickel finish. It was a graduation gift when I finished the police acadamy way back when, and was my duty carry for almost a decade. Wouldn't part with it for the world. :p :D

I had one like that. It was the first handgun I ever owned. Like an idiot I traded it off on something else. :o Wish I still had it.

Cajun... don't we all have that same story about one gun model or another. I'm sure everyone of us feels like kicking themselves over a gun we wish we'd never sold....

That is classic looking :) How do you like that 4" semilug barrel for shooting balance/recoil/flip? They have a new model out that is similar (the 520), and I have been curious about it. When was the model 19 discontinued? How long has that one been sitting in the box waiting for you?

Best,
Caleb

Don't get it refinished. The finish S & W used during that era cannot be duplicated according to the company. I have a 29-2 that had a scuff on the muzzle. Sent it into the factory and they recommended not touching it, except polish and buffing. Supposedly, the guy who did the finishing then died with the patent.

(Newbie here....)

Drool doesn't begin to describe it....

I have it's 6" brother.... Dunno about the "dash" part, though - pre-GCA '68 anyway.

It's been fired quite a bit, and has a bit of holster wear as a "uniform" gun for a while, but mostly lives in a box or gun rug now.

I couldn't get a 4" at the time. The Military was taking all of those that they could get.

I've also got it's little cousin - a 4" M10HB. Same fit & finish, and just a little newer. The M19's a little nicer overall, but not by much.

(Just to make everybody sick, the M19 was $135, and the M10 was $65. The latter was a "Police" price - I'm a rent-a-cop - but the M19 was full retail more or less.)
