N Frame N5346XX 357 Hwy Patrolman
N Frame 57 N334xx
And K22 K359Xx

N frame Serial Numbers for 1978 through 1980 started with N500000.

N frame Serial Numbers for 1975 through 1976 started with N300000.

K frame Serial Numbers for 1959 were K350548 through K386804. However this would actually be an Model 17. In 1957 S&W changed over to a Model Number system and the K-22 became the Model 17. If you swing out the cylinder MOD-17 or MODEL 17 should be stamped on the frame under the yoke cut.

You're welcome

If you want to buy the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson, which is my main reference to all things S&W, I recommend buying the 3rd edition, not the 4th edition. Not as up to date as the 4th edition, but I find the 3rd edition much easier to navigate. The 3rd edition was published in 2006, and frankly I don't care about anything newer than that.

Ooops. My mistake. I looked up the wrong amount of digits on the K-22.

K22 K359Xx would be 1948.

Jim is correct, Serial numbers ran from K18732 to K73121 that year.

That would be a K-22 Masterpiece, (Post War, 3rd Model) as opposed to the older K-22 Outdoorsman. And too early for a Model 17.

I would include a photo of what one of these looks like but PhotoBucket is being a real pain in the butt right now.

Here is what a K-22 Masterpiece looks like. Five screws, with a slightly tapered barrel with a narrow rib on top. This one shipped in 1950.
