S&W Trigger disengage function

S&W semi-auto's have a feature that if the magazine is out the gun won't fire due to disengageing the trigger linkage.

Question: Does any other handgun manufactures US and imports use such a system?

Thanks,

Turk

The Browning Hi-Power is the most prolific that comes to mind.

Additionally, the little LW Seecamp autos not only disengage the firing mechanism, but lock the slide closed.

My star firestar was like that. I took it off.

Star's are a joke. May as well own a davis.

Mykl, are you sure about the Browning? I'm sitting here with my Hi-Power (which was made in 1980) and with the magazine removed and no round in the chamber, I cock the hammer, pull the trigger and the hammer drops. Do you think there's something wrong with it or are all Hi-Powers like this?

HP's leave the factory with a magazine disconnect safety. Some folks like to remove them, so if you bought your HP used chances are a previous owner removed the safety.
