S&W shootable/collectible ideas?

I'm starting to think about picking up a M19 and maybe some other post-war S&W's as guns that will maintain or perhaps increase in value.
I'm not talking about serious collector guns that are NIB and have never been spun. There are plenty of 98-99% guns out there and many outstanding Smiths in this category are pretty affordable.
I'd like to be able to shoot them occasionally. Any thoughts on specific models or published articles I should look at that folks think would fit into this category?
Thanks for your thoughts.

I'd start by grabbing up some of the less common examples ,like the K-comp ,or the 3 inch M-66. Model 19's & other K frames aren't scarce by any standard, but really nice LNIB's are getting fewer and further between. Regards 18DAI.

Look for NICE blued K frame revolvers- they don't make them any more
and will never make them like that again. As mentioned , pleanty of mod 10,13,14,15,17,18 and 19's to go around in the $200- $400 range. All are plenty shootable. Next choice would be a nice Mod 27 or 28 but those are starting to get costly when condition warrents.

K frames and others

I have a model 19; its pinned and recessed. it has that deep dark blueing, and a little holster wear on the muzzle; it has a set of Hoque grips on it and a 4" barrel; this is the piece that goes out in the woods/desert with me. I carry remington 125 bjhp's. it does double duty out in the living room tucked between a folded newspaper; I love smith revolvers, and treat them gently; but when it comes to going to wally world, and that longggg walk across the parking lot, I've got my sp101 loaded with rem. 125g bjhp tucked in a milt sparks iwb. :)

Look for a Model 64 with 4" taper/pencil barrel. They only made them for a couple of years then went to heavy barrel only. Basically a stainless steel Model 10. If you can find one in good shape for under $300 you'd be doing well as they are and have been going steadily up.

The Model 28 Highway Patrolman is another one that's been over looked for many years and is just now coming into it's own and therefore rising in price. Either 4" or 6" version will do. Like having a Model 27 but for less money and less worry about marring the finish during those soon to be frequent trips to the range.

Lastly a blued or nickle Model 49 Bodyguard. Too many have viewed the little steel humpback as a redheaded stepchild. Now they are getting hard to find in any condition and again, the price is only going up.

Hope these suggestions give you some ideas.

Start buying N-frames. Some of the prices are already going thru the roof and show no sign of slowing down.

I'm repeating myself from another post, but...for the same price($329) I can get an M64 4-inch (heavy barrel) or an M19 2 1/2-inch. Uses will be range duty, IDPA competition, occasional nightstand duty, and maybe someday, some glorious day, CCW. What's the best to start a useful but unique S&W collection?
