S&W serial lookup old model 10

Sure, post the serial number and I can tell you when it was made.
You can X out the last couple of digits. Include any letter prefix it might have.

1942-1945. If there is no letter before the s/n, it is a pre-Model 10 (.38 M&P).

A "C" before that number would mean 1966-1967; a "D", 1976-1977.

That serial number would date to 1941. The M&P revolvers made in that era are sometimes called "pre-Victory" models if they were made for the U.S. or allied forces.

Is that so? I was told by S&W my Model 10-5 was made in 1962, but it has a D prefix...weird.

I'll post the full serial when I get home later.

At this time the gun has a worn finish but not horrible. The cylinder does not turn in SA or DA. Is there a common problem or fix? It almost seems like the hand does not protrude far enough to catch the cylinder. I am new to S&W wheel guns. Im trying to estimate value, The numbers match all over the gun. Any other info needed on valuing it? Sorry for all the questions lol:cool:

the number is 7764xx
As already mentioned, ~1941.

1942 to 1945 would have a V prefix.

Is that so? I was told by S&W my Model 10-5 was made in 1962, but it has a D prefix...weird
10-5's were made from 1962 to 1977. "D" prefixes ran from 1968 to 1977.
So yours cannot be earlier than 1968.
