S&W round to square conversion?

Why are there so many grips that convert the S&W J-frame from a round butt to a square butt type grip? I've had 2 S&W j-frames with square butts and one Charter Arms with a round butt and I prefer the round butt hands down. Is it just a preference thing or is there another reason?

Just a preference thing, I reckon. Most folks prefer the round butt on CCW guns, but there's thems as feel more comfortable with a square butt for shootin'...

I started with the ole square butt j-frame which S&W calls a Chiefs Special Target. Ha ha. I thought the RB looked weird but when I tried the RB my shooting took a quantum leap. The gun just points naturally for me with a RB. Love em.

It's a personal thing.

I like round buts on some of my fun and carry guns.

I like precisely profiled large bottemed grips on my serious target guns.

Retiree has round butt grips

I gave a few cherry wood Fitz Gunfighter grips for round and sq butt Smith "J" frames and older Colts before WW2 and one for a Charter Arms .357 bulldog coffeyn1@juno.com

Some nylon blend imatition stag for J frame round butts too
