S&W Performance Center

As to target pistols in 45 ACP does the performance of the Performance Center 625 justify the cost or not? I saw one on Gunbroker.com for $850.00.
Thanks,

HAPPY SHOOTING ! ( K38 will shoot under 2 inches at 25 yards and can be had for aorund $300 for a pre 1957 gun)

Sorta depends on how you define performance. If you mean group size only, then the added cost may be of questionable value.

However, if you factor in barrel/cylinder/sight/grip configurations not available elsewhere, special finishes, smoother actions, nice case, and higher resale value... then yes, they are worth the $250 bump in price.

I currently have 4 625's in different configurations, 2 are PC models. Heaven forbid, but if I should ever fall on hard times, the PC models would be the very last to go.

Good Luck...

This is the source of great controversy in the Revolver Forum. Is S&W still producing a quality product? Compared to the its past heritage, No.

As a recent purchaser of a Camfour S&W 625 PC, I'd say that the new Performance Center Revolvers are not worth the money if you're looking for a revolver that will outshoot any other. You're just paying for more features and the PC stamp. It's a collector's item only.

I must say that I've had to change my mind about this. After reading several excellent critques of the new S&W revolvers on the Firingline and hearing about other poor experiences with the same PC shop revolvers, I decided to have my own personal 625PC examined harshly by many local revolver experts. Needless to say, my PC revolver's action was found lacking. Consequently, it's been sent off to Clark Custom Guns for a target action job and new springs. I only hope that the parts and new safety lock are up to a revision or improving. When it comes back from Clark Custom Guns, I'll see whether a new S&W Performance Center Revolver can indeed be brought up to speed by experts. :barf:

As others have stated before, by used and look for the S&W of the past. It's clearly better quality by design and a better buy. And, I'm eating my words now. I offer apologies to all. :p

My 681 PC does nt appear to have MIM parts, at least to my eye. Perhaps it depends on the model. By the way, I've been nothing but pleased with this gun.

Stoic, the Performance Center 625 has never been available with MIM parts, so the original poster is ignorant or a fraud.

As for the quality of these guns, the market speaks for itself and these Performance Center guns don't sit around for very long.
