Does anybody know the story behind these?
Has S&W discontinued making them or are they still available?
Every time I ask someone at a gun store about them, my question is usually met with blank stares.

“Oh yes we have a 627…”
“What about the snubbie 627?”
" :confused: "

It was a limited run. Guns of this basic style were made in 357, 41 and 44 magnum a couple of years ago. When they sold out that was it. Wish I had bought one of the 44's.

I have one and love it. My dealer got it from from either Lew Horton or RSR.You might give them a call on the outside chance that they still have one or know who might. I wanted the 44 mag to go with mine, but waited too long and missed my chance.
Also, I recently had some luck locating a discontinued model on the smith-wesson forum (classified section). They may be of some help.

My local shop priced one for me...or more specifically, Tamara did. They're still available, although I had her price the 5" version with the Patridge gold bead front sight.

I want one of those pretty badly.
 
The short barrel was available only via Lew Horton. The 5" is an available PC model. I have the 5" and it is awesome! Dennis
