S&W PC 19? Value?

I came across a used 19PC. It's ported with a tritium front site, appears aound 3" barrel, DAO. It has no box and after market grips, and some wear and even a light rust spot. Anyway, any comments or advice is welcomed. This dealer wanted $700.00. I felt like it should be more like $500.00 in the condition without box or papers.

I appreciate it. Are you familiar with this model? BTW, Sir William I recently bought a 27-2 31/2 nickel. Do you know when S&W stopped offering that length?

I wouldn't give him $700 if it was NIB. I wouldn't even give him $500 in that shape. With the rust, wrong grips, and no box I would go $300 only because it's a limited model.

The M27 stopped coming in the 3 1/2" barrel in 1979.

Majic is quicker on the keyboard, again! I was recently shown a M27 in 8 and 3/8th" barrel and blue in presentation case. Sounds good? The cylinder was deeply engraved 360 and the bolt was heavily worn. The price? $650.00. I passed. Some people think their junk is rare and valuable.

The Model 19 you are describing is a Performance Center gun. I owned one for a bit. The pluses are that it has the smooth action job that the S&W Performance Center does on their guns; it is a 3" barreled K-frame with the excellent "hang" or feel that the 3" has (along with a full-length ejector rod); It has a night sight, the port is a single, large port in front of the front sight, and it does work to reduce muzzle jump. Mine had chamfered charge holes. It is just about the ultimate in a combat revolver.

There is a downside to the gun: The matte blue finish is prone to rust faster than a polished finish. You have to look farther than the corner hardware store for a proper holster, but they are readily available from folks like Desantis. Although the barrel is 3 inches long, the sight radius is about like that of a 2 1/2 inch gun because the front sight is set back to allow for the port. That is not a factor at combat ranges, but I could shoot better groups with a standard 3" K-frame at 25 yards than with my PC 19.

If the gun is in solid condition, not worn to a sloppy frazzle, it is probably worth 500-550. A reblue is not exceedingly expensive. I don't think I would go the $700, but a compromize price might send it home with me.

Thanks, for the replies. Last year I paid 600.00 out the door for a 13PC and 460PC NIB. I would like to have it but can't justify the price. The clerk told me it had been there for 8 months.
