S&W P99 single-action trigger pull

I have a S&W P99, and a problem - when firing in single action, the trigger drags noticeably for the first 1/8th of an inch. Then the trigger spring catches, and it's sometimes tough to pull. The rest of the trigger pull is fine.
Has anyone else had this problem, or have any suggestions?
I have sent it back to Smith & Wesson twice - but both times it was returned in the same condition.
Thanks for the help.

I think that practice and, finger placement
is key on the 99 pistols. I have a Walther
and, it took me a while to get used to it.
I now find it to be great, however, it does
not have as good, in my opinion, a trigger
as my Sig P-228. On the 99 in SA, keep your
finger low. You'll get to like it.

I think what you're describing is really pretty normal. I've got mine in my hand right now and in the single-action mode there is about 0.3" of slack (or takeup)before you actually get to the point where the gun is ready to fire.

I wouldn't call the initial movement rough- you're really just pulling against the trigger return spring. But is seems as if mine has gotten better with use.

It's a nice gun. Just keep shooting it.

I EMAILED S/W, ABOUT THE SAME THING, THE RESPONSE I GOT WAS IF THE SLACK WAS TAKEN UP, I WOULD LOSE THE SINGLE ACTION TRIGGER. I DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT, THINKING ABOUT TRADING IT FOR AN HK USP COMPACT, I SHOT ONE AT THE RANGE- VERY NICE PIECE!
