S&W MP22 Compact First Shots

I bought my MP22 Compact a week ago and have not shot it till tonight. In that time I have held and examined several times this little gem. I ran around 200 mixed shots through it of Mini Mags, Game Shock, and Suppressors. Not a single misfire, failure to load, or failure to eject. Construction and finish of this gun is on par with their larger relatives. The magazines are a joy to work with and the trigger on mine breaks at about 4lbs 8 ounces and not real gritty but will see a little polishing. Overal a great little gun for the money except the sights. The sights fall far short of the rest of the gun. I will for sure replace the sights this gun is screaming for XS Sights Express sights or something similar. I'm very happy with this purchase thus far and am looking forward to working with it in the future.

I too am wondering why the scream? My Compact shoots like a dream and the sights are just fine for popping Texas Hogs wnen caught in a trap and making every attempt to get out and pee on my boot. One .22 in the brain does wonders for their disposition.
If you decide to change sights use a pusher as S&W seems to find a way to wedge them in really tight.

I love the Big Dot Express sights. For me these are the fastest sights I have ever used and much more accurate than folks who have never used them think. I have put them on 4 hand guns and also used the white stripe AR front sight with aperture style rear sights on 2AR's.This gun would be the first 22lr I would have put them on and it's a practice gun for SD. It's not like it's a target gun to try and keep up with my Ruger/Volquartsen guns. I really wished that it was a 22lr version of the Ruger LC9.

rep1954, A really neat small .22 pistol is the Sig 938 with a .22 conversion kit, compact and has great night sights. Takes about a min to change calibers.

I shot one at a range as a rental, just to try it out. I was very impressed--it didn't feel like a diminutive cousin to some other "real" gun. I thought it felt good in the hand and was easy to control. Dimensions and width reminded me a lot of the Shield--making me think this .22 could be a good training surrogate for a larger caliber, just with cheaper ammo.

Is it available without the thumb safety? I don't mind the Chicklet-sized safety on the actual Shield, but the lever-style on the 22c seemed to get in the way of my thumb. Very easy to toggle on and off with just the strong thumb, but also easy to flip back up if not careful or just adjusting my grip.

Overall though it was a very nice product. I'm sure you'll get a lot of use out of it!

The range also had just got a .22LR Victory from S&W, a very nice looking target gun. It's on my rental wishlist too :) Looks fun.
