S&W MP15 Question

Havent seen it yet, but assuming everything is legit. I have a guy who wants to sell me his AR (model # 811000) thats hes says has never been fired with 3 pmags for $800.00.

Im just checking to see if there are better deals out there and get reviews on this rifle before I meet him tomorrow.

If it's truely unfired, $800.00 would be a very good price for the S&W M&P 15. MSRP on the S&W website is $1,249. Been selling quite a few of these to individual officers (at more than $800) and agencies with good reviews.

SVO, I assume your referring to the sport model. Of all the research ive been able to do I just figured it would be worth the extra hundred for a chromed barrel, dust cover, forward assist and two extra pmags.

I just got off the phone and the nearest store with one in stock is over an hour away.

What do yall think?

Which model is it? If it's the Sport, $800 is too high, even with the three PMags.

I paid $1150 for my MOE two years ago.

Guys, it's not the Sport as he identified the the M&P15 by model number. The Sport has a model number of 811036. The model the OP is talking about is the 811000 (311000) which is the base M&P with detachable handle and 16" barrel.

Thank You mbott, you are correct.

The rifle that the guy has for sale is the Model #811000. It has a chrome lined barrel, dust cover, forward assist, and detachable carry handle. 3 Pmags
and No warranty for 800.00

The model that I assume that SVO was referring to that sales at Acadamy for
< $700 (@$705 after tax) is the Sport Model #811036. This has no dust cover, forward assist, and the barrel isnt chrome lined. Its a flat top with flip up sight and one pmag and I think a one year warranty.

So whats the better deal?

Good question. Is the dust cover important to you? Is the forward assist important to you? Is the detachable carry handle important to you? Personally, I prefer the chrome lined barrel but it's only a preference and not a requirement.

Both my ARs have a carry handle, forward assist (which I wouldn't use, btw) and the dust cover. If I was in the market for an AR, the Sport would be under consideration.

Buds has that model rifle for sale at $1,050. They are usually very competitive. The three Pmags will add about $45. So, I think $800 is a good price.

BTW, Buds lists the Sport model for $601 (the Calif. 10 round model). Is it worth the extra $155 from the Sport model to this one (remember the three pmags)? You've already identified the extra features, forward assist and chrome lined barrel.

You might also consider the removable carry handle (and rear sights) versus the fold down rear Magpul. If you want an optic with backup iron sights, you'll have to add a rear to the 11000 (I think the Magpul rear is about $50). On the other hand, if you want to primarily use iron sights, the 11000 carry handle/sights make more sense.

To me, I would get the quality I want and then add what I can when I can. If you really want a chrome lined barrel and forward assist, I would go that direction. If not, don't worry about it.

I want to thank everyone for their feedback.

I went with the 811000. The Chrome lined barrel and extra mags is what sold me.

Thanks again and ill be back with a range report and pics when able.

The progressive rifled Melonite 5R barrel on the Sport is a better barrel, in my opinion.

As for the dust cover and forward assist, none of my other firearms have dust covers and they've done well for the decades I've owned them.

As for the forward assist, I never use the one I have. I guess if you don't know how to resize your reloads, it can come in handy for getting a round stuck in the chamber. :D

I would have gotten the Sport model and spent the saved money on either PMags or ammo. I shoot the M&P15 OR.
