Considering a compact S&W Model CS40, Chiefs Special, NIB for $449. Are these any good regarding reliability, quality, decent accuracy?

Pistol has been in dealer inventory since late 1999, pre-sellout by S&W, which is the only situation under which I would consider it.

I have had excellent results from S&W's third generation autos. I see no reason why the CS40 shouldn't perform as well as the others. I don't know if this particular model has a plastic disconnector and mainspring plunger, but if so, I would have a good gunsmith replace them with steel parts if they are available.

Am considering one myself if I can find a pre-sellout CS45. If I do, I'll send it to Novak's for a few enhancements and a reliability check.

I posted the same question regarding a CS .45
Got one or two responses on the question and they were good. I purchased the gun and didn't take it out yet. The gun was used and the owner of the gun shop told me that the guy who traded it said it was a good shooter,
just didn't fit his hand well and that was the reason for trading. So if the .45 is good so should the .40 IMHO. ;)

Hope this helps :)
Happy Shooting :)

Like SG12 said, S&W third generation pistols are pretty good guns and I'm pretty fond of them (just check any of my posts). That said, the Chief Special auto line never really grew on me and as a result I do not have any personal experience with this particular model. If you want to learn more about this model as well as share your thoughts, comments & ideas with regard to Smith & Wesson products, stop by the Smith & Wesson Firearms Enthusiast's Web Board, which is no way affiliated with the Smith & Wesson Company of Springfeild, MA.

I used to own a CS45, but traded it in because the grip was not comfortable for me. I have no complaints whatsoever about the CS45 and it worked reliably with the ammo that I fed it. No jams or anything. Nice little gun, but see if you can find one used for obvious reasons. If it fits your hand well, then go for it.
