S&W Model 686 with light and heavy bullets?

Would forum members who own a S&W Model 686 (I want a 6") users comment on how accurate their guns are with 180 grain 357 mag. bullets(deer load) and 148 grain 38 wadcutters (rabbit load). The posts I have been reading say the 686 shoots better with the lighter (125 grain) magnums. Do these guns shoot the 180 grainers with real good accuracy or would the Ruger SP100 be a better choice for the heavy bullets. I am not concerned that the Smith won't take it just that I want the best gun for shooting the heavier bullets. What are the rates of twist for the 2 different guns. Also can you shoot 38's out of the Ruger or is it just 357 mags.

When I first started pistol Silhouette all I had to use was a 6" 686. I shot 180's at the rams at 100 meters. The main problem was the front sight was too wide but they did take the rams down quite nicely.

I don't shoot the other bullet weight in 38 you asked about but 5.0 grs of unique behind a 140 gr. hp in 38 Spl makes for small groups at 25 yards.

The 686's I've been around do shoot rather nicely once you find what it likes and look so much better than the Rugar.

whats the recoil of a 180gr. 357 round out of a 2inch snub like? i have had a box for ages and am a little apprehensive about trying them. sorry if im hijacking

skt666,

Recoil is very subjective. If you are very concerned, toss a single round in the cylinder and try it out. (If you end up with carpal something or other, I didn't suggest this trial. ) If you react poorly, there will be no more rounds for an accidental second shot.

Me? I don't do snubbies. I like the comfort of the weight.
