I picked up a S&W model 66 .357 magnum today (6" barrel). I have been doing a lot of reading as far as what type of ammuntion should be used. But I would like to get some readers opinions. For the people who shoot this revolver, what kind of ammuntion do you use. Is there a type of magnum cartridge that is safe to shoot all the time in this gun or should .38 +P be used only?

Magnums are fine in moderation. Problems with the guns didn't really start to surface until Police started practicing and qualifying exclusively with their high performance 125grn carry ammo. While you can shoot them occasionally, I'd stay away from the hot, high velocity 125 grn stuff. 158's at lower velocity will give similar performance but be quite a bit easier on your forcing cone.

your weapon will fire 357 factory rounds just fine all you want as long as it isnt the first 357 made. which it isnt. you will probably not want to shoot 357 rounds all the time. they are expensive and they pack a wallop.i have always said that a full size 4 inch 375 bull barrell with modern 38 special rounds is dream to shoot. shoot anough 357 to be proficent but 38 is cheaper and fun to shoot.
