S&W model 629 disassembly

I just purchased a S&W 629 and I am looking for directions on disassembly. I bought it used at an auction and it needed to be cleaned, it is a stainless version and it cleaned up nicely, but I would like to open it up if not only to look inside but to also make sure that it is nice and clean and freshly lubricated. I started to remove the "side plate" and it seemed to be on pretty well, and I didn't want to start prying on it to get it opened. Can someone direct me to a link that will show me step by step how to disassemble / reassemble it? Thanks in advance!

The best way to get the information that you want on the web is to go to www.brownells.com and buy a copy of Jerry Kuhnhausen's Shop Manual for the Smith & Wesson Revolver. You will ruin the gun if you go "prying" on the side plate. Buy the book. It tells you exactly how to service your gun without damage. While you are at the Brownells site, have them throw in a copy of their catalog. It is a priceless resource for gun owners.

With the cylinder empty and removed from the frame, take the grips off and remove the side plate screws. Hold the pistol in your off hand with the plate up and take a plastic or wood handled screwdriver and whack the frame butt (remember, grips are already removed) with the handle of the driver while holding the shank of the tool. The plate will pop up like magic. Might take a few whacks so don't get too agressive and scatter the innards. If this is virgin territory for your noggin, take some photos to assist reassembly or make sketches if no camera available.
FORCE NOTHING!
The AGI video tape will help if you get stumped.

Sorry guys. I got tied up doing holiday stuff. Not to sound completely dumb but how do I remove the cylinder? Does anyone have an exploded diagram?
If you can’t already tell this is my first revolver and I just don’t want to screw anything up.

Best advice: BUY THE KUHNHAUSEN BOOK.

We often get requests like this, followed in a day or so with pleas to give advice on how to get it back together, or questions about why the gun no longer works properly.

The Kuhnhausen book is the best info ever written on the mechanics of the S&W revolver.
I consider it required equipment for any S&W owner, even if you don't intend to open it up.

Just being able to figure out IF your revolver is working properly, and being able to decide if it needs repair is well worth the small price.

In addition, should you decide to do so, the book gives complete instructions on the FACTORY method of doing an action job to give a better trigger pull.

No BS, this is money VERY well spent.

With that said:
To remove the cylinder, remove the screw on the right front of the frame, just above the trigger.

This will either be an ordinary screw or a cap with a spring-loaded plunger under it.

If it's a screw KEEP IT SEPARATE FROM ALL OTHER SCREWS. This screw is a FITTED screw and MUST go back in the same hole.
Getting the WRONG screw in the hole can do serious damage to the gun.

With the screw or cap and plunger removed, turn the revolver over and carefully open the cylinder.

Holding the cylinder steady, pull the cylinder yoke forward and out of the frame and cylinder.
Do not allow the cylinder to move as you pull the yoke out, hold it immovable.

Dvd

There are DVD's out there that can tell you what to do and they are easy to follow along with. The DVD is called Complete Revolver, and it covers the K,L, and N frame S&W revolvers.

I still find it hard to believe that there isn’t a “free-be” copy of this on-line anywhere. Well on that note I’m going to go buy the book.
