S&W Model 60 Pro Series

Hey everyone,

I'm relatively new to handguns, brand new to this forum, and I'm curious as to your opinion of the revolver mentioned in the title of this forum.

My first purchase was a Springfield 1911 A1 that I fell in love with almost immediately. A cousin of mine who owns many guns, took me to a local range to get a feel for many different handguns. After this trial, I knew that .45's were the way to go for me.

A few months later, and because I've always wanted a revolver for nostalgic reasons, I purchase the Model 60, which is .38 Special +p, and now I'm in love with this one. lol

What are your opinions, for those of you familiar with the model?

I personally have always wanted a Model 60 in .357mag but haven’t ever really found a good deal on one. I do own a Model 442 which I purchased new for significantly less than the NIB price of the Model 60. However, while the M442 meets my current needs I have no doubt the M60 is a much better gun.

I think the model 60 pro series would be a handy little revolver and would love to own one . I have to wonder how much abuse these little J framed revolvers can handle especially with full power .357 magnum loads ? I know I would mainly shoot 38 special through it and occasional .357 use if needed....regardless , I want one !

I think they're great.

I used to own this one:

Loved the look and feel of those grips. I didn't care much for the modernistic-looking barrel on it, even though it was quite accurate.

I traded it for a Para Ornance LDA Carry (.45ACP Compact 1911-style) and it became a daily carry:

The Smith & Wesson 60-Pro was a great gun but It always seemed to stay in the safe. .357s through it were not difficult at all.

This 60-15 is my daily carry gun, loaded with 158 gr .357 mag Speer Gold Dots in an IWB Simply Rugged pancake:

I think it's a great gun, but to be honest I don't have much experience with other comparable guns (Ruger SP101, for instance, or other S&W J & K frames). I don't have the experience because I'm perfectly satisfied with the Model 60.

.357 SD loads are, well, stout. They will get your notice, but I can shoot them reliably and accurately. I routinely practice with .38 SP HBWC's, finishing each session with some .357 round nose, and occasionally the .357 SPGD's.

It's a great gun.

Smith & Wesson 60-14

I purchased a new SW 60-14 (2") a few months ago. It's a great revolver. Well made and looks great. I have a CT on mine so it's quite accurate. I have no problem shooting 357, 38 or 38+P. I actually prefer my Gold Dot 135 38 +P rounds for self defense and while carrying CCW. I also have the SW 686 4" Revolver. That revolver is also fun to shoot and very accurate.

Here's mine. I forgot to include a pic in the original post. Forgive all the background junk, as my desk is very "busy".

This is the type of gun, for which one needs to explore the "short barrel" or "low(er) recoil" ammo or reloads. Trying to shoot full up 357 in this gun is crazy in my opinion, just as it is in the Ruger SP101. The guns don't necessarily have to fallback to 38 Special. However, one like Zeinobraino's, made for .38 Special exclusively, makes the most sense to me. I reload for mine using 357 cases, but many don't reload.

I have the Pro Series M-60 with adj. sights, worthless tritium dot in the front sight, 5 shot, .357 and love it.
It is in the console of the SUV & I shoot it often.
Just for grins I benched it at 25 yards shooting the Remmy 125 grain .357 h.p. and it groupd well under 2" which surprised me for such a small
short barrel revolver.
