Check it out
If you really did not want it, I would then suggest keeping it unfired to keep the sale value. But I guess you want it, so perhaps you should check the serial number range and see if it falls within range for safety with +P ammo. Still would not fire that ammo a whole bunch in it, especially for extended practice. How many years has it been setting unused? By now the oil might have gummed up inside. I assume being in box, dust and dirt did not get into it. But if it has been around for years, it might be good to have the innards cleaned and relubricated with fresh modern type lubrication before shooting it. IF you are just gonna save it for show, maybe just be sure the outside is wiped with a film of oil or rust preventative. Would be an unpleasant suprise to take it out of the box some day and find fingeprint shaped rust spots. Good little guns for sure. If you decide to change anything on it, like the grips, I would save the originals in the box. Save the box-that helps value at trade in time too.
