My uncle is visiting and was telling me about this particular gun he has. He has sold guns for many many years, and this is one that he has had for 15-20 years he said. He is 80 yrs now and no longer shoots, and I am thinking about offering to buy it from him; two reasons, to give it a good home, and it would also be nice to have a gun belonging to my uncle who also loves firearms. It is stainless and in the original box. This is all that I know. How much is it worth?? HOw much should I offer him??

If it is stainless, then it isn't a Model 34! I suspect he has a Model 63 although you should really open the cylinder and look for the stamping under the forcing cone.

I have an M63 and it is a wonderful gun to train with. It is so small and light that it DEMANDS you do everything right or the bullet goes WAY off. It is the opposite of a bull barreled Ruger autopistol which will make most people look good. The M63 can be humbling if you have picked up any bad habits.

I paid $275 plus shipping for mine but that was a very good deal. Look on gunbroker, etc. Look at the gun for the model number. See if it is old enough to have a pinned barrel since that makes it a little more desirable. A fair price would be somewhere around $300 depending on model, age, etc. Maybe $250 for a "family" price! The "book" says it is worth as much as $375.

From Supica's Catalog of Smith & Wesson:
Model 34: The Model of 1953 .22/32 Kit Gun
.22 caliber I frame revolver.
NIB $375
Exc $300
VG $225
Good $175

If it's stainless, it's not a Model 34. I agree with tul, it's likely a Model 63. Supica's price breakdown is identical for the M63.

Yep, might be nickel. If so, add $15-25 to the price if the finish is nice. If the finish is not nice, subtract.

FWIW, while in traffic, I looked this same gun up in the Blue Book (kept in my car) and the BB disagrees with Supica, placing the NIB Model 63 at $400, with corresponding prices down the line.
