S&W Model 29 '03 Dirty Harry Model Reissue

I have the oppurtunity to purchase this model NIB for 625 + shipping + FFL transfer fee. Is it worth it.

I am looking for a good hunting gun. Not sure if this would fit the bill. It is a beutiful gun, but am I paying to much just b/c it is a reissue or dirty harry.

I can't decide between a S&W 629, 29, Ruger SuperBlackhawk bisley hunter, or a Ruger SuperRedhawk. Leaning more towards the double action pieces than the SBH because I can put Hogue grips on them. How do the 629 and 29s compare to Redhawks as far as accuracy is concerned.

Bottom line is the gun worth close to 700 after fees?

I've seen hogue grips for the SBH(at least maybe they were hogues?), but I don't know why you'd need them unless even a slight jump bothers you(the SBH tends to roll a bit when you shoot it, nice and comfy though). I have the stock Ruger grips on mine and I don't hurt after shooting 2 boxes of Remmington .44 Mag through it.

Might add its accurate on a dime as far out as I've taken it.

I am a 629 owner, but I am not familiar with a Dirty Harry model re-issue. To the best of my knowledge the Dirty Harry model was a blued 6" with wood grips. Is that the one you are talking about?

Regards,
John

The dirty harry model comes with rosewood grips. blued 6.5 barell. dirty harry inspector badge, etc. Its a beutiful piece, but I want one for a hunting gun so i don't know about this particular purchase. Might be more of a show gun than anything else.

Ruger SRH...best value.

If your not intersted in the S&W 629, get the Ruger SuperRedhawk.

The Taurus Raging Bull in 44mag is also nice and has scope mounts that sit the optics farther forward, which is my preference.

But, the Raging bull and SRH are the same price. I'd go SRH.

Thanks for the link....but I have to say that something doesn't look right here.

Those don't look like factory S&W rosewood grips. Dirty Harry's M29 didn't have those kind of grips. Not to the best of my knowledge. It's obviously a M29 (because they were all blued whereas the M629 is always SS/Nickel).

Who knows....

Those look like they are the new Ahrends grips that S&W is using for some of the N-frame line. Factory original, but not what DH used on his piece.
