Just curious what everyone thinks these are worth in a good condition?

My late grandpa had one in 38spcl with, I think, about a 5" barrel. I couldn't obtain his because of certain circumstances, but have been wanting one ever since. I think if I could find one it would still mean a lot to me & I would be reminded of him every time I held it in my hands.

So what does everyone think? What should I pay for one of these, if I find one in a good condition?

Thanks

Make sure you get the 38 special not the 38 S&W CTG as the 38 S&W CTG is the 38 short, about 6 thousants larger than the special. I have 4 1905 M&P from 1909 to 1945, never paid more than 250 or less than 175, there were millions made and stay within that price range and you won't spend too much. Some people think cause they are old they should be worth a lot but there were so many sold over 60 years that the market is flooded with them. Charlie

I paid $250.00 for one that had been refinished not long ago. I bought it really to get the mid 50's diamond magna grips that were were on it. The gun itself was made about 1920 or so.

The magna's went on another M&P, so I put a set of aftermarket grips on I had on it. With light loads 158 gr. lead bullets, it's a good shooter.

I would not paid more than $350 for a 1905 3rd or 4th with box. The shooter grade ones without a box are $300 tops in good condition. The price goes down if there is a lot of wear on the finish or the original grips are missing. The gun shops and online auction sites such as Gunbroker want way too much money for these revolvers. Like others have said, S&W made and sold millions of them. They are not rare. They are good shooting revolvers but thats it.
Good luck,
Howard
