S&W Model 19 report

I took my newly acquired S&W Model 19 snubbie out for a little exercise today. I added some round butt Hogues for shooting and they feel great on this gun. I put 18 rounds of Remington .38s through it both SA and DA . I was able to keep all but one inside a 3" bullseye. I think that will do the job. I was unsure about buying this gun. I had a 4" version previously and wasn't really impressed, but this one just plain shoots better to me. I am glad to have it now. Still need to find some nice round butt wood grips to show it off a little better. I promised more pictures so here we go. :)

For small or medium frame revolvers, I am sold on Eagle Secret Service grips. My K- and J-Frame Smiths are so stocked. Mine are rosewood, much better for me than those rubber grips.

Bob, do the eagles allow for a full grip? If I could find this same grip as these rubber round butt ones in wood, I would be pleased. Maybe I should take a look at the Hogue website. :)

Nice gun! I have 2 Model 19's - 4" & 6" love'em both. They shoot like you say too!

Mine are comfortable with wood grips, but I bet the hogues feel great!

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the visual Bob. I have my eye on some Pau Ferro round butt version from Hogue. The have the same palm swell on both sides and look to be identical to the rubber ones. :)

Nice 19 snub!
I know there is an ammo shortage, but come on man.......only 18 rounds downrange! :p

Bet you are a cheap date!

Wheely, I was waiting for someone to pounce on my lack of roundage. LOL. This was my first time out with this gun and I also had my Glock 19 out. I was adjusting my new Crimson Trace laser on that, so I had to shoot about a half box thru that. Anyway the lack of available ammo certainly has affected the way I shoot now.
I could tell by the 18 rounds that this is a real shooter. There will be more later I promise. :)

I have three Model 19s... the 2.5, the 4, and the 6".

If I had to get rid of all of my guns save one, the one I would keep would be a Model 19.

I've said it many times before, but I'll say it again...

I do not believe that there has ever been a better combination of power, size, handling, ergonomics, durability, or reliability put into one package.

As far as I'm concerned, the Model 19 isn't just the best revolver ever made, it's the best handgun ever made.

Mike, so now the question .... if you had to get rid of all your 19s but one which one would you keep? For me, I like the 2.5 the best. I haven't shot a 6" but I had a 4" one sometime ago and also a 4" M15. Of those I shoot this 2.5" better, and it handles great. Balance for me is near perfect. Sight are very good and easy to see with the red insert front. Just very easy to shoot. :)

My 4" M-19 wears Pachmayrs, my 6" Herrett's "sort of" Jordan style. I confess I sold my 2.5"M-19 years ago, like Skeeter Skelton I found it really didn't do much for me.

got2hav1-another nice one! Appears there are some with similiar excellent tastes. :D Have taken to houge rubber bantams on the mid frame rb's, cause that huge piece of rubber advertising on the right side increases the trigger pull length.

Don't have low res pics of the blued one, but some for it's stainless cousin.

Roberg, I am able to hit my target more consistently with the 2.5" M19. I am however shooting only .38s for practice. If I choose to carry it , then it will be loaded with .357s. I have just now starting a small collection of Smiths, ( Colt guy), my first was a 4" M19 but for some reason I sold if off. Now I have the M19 , a M586 in 4" and a M27.2 in 3.5" . Photo of them :

I have seen the M-19 described as a 38 Special that can fire .357s while the Colt Trooper and Python-which inspired the L-frame-are true .357s. Also old school thinking was practice with WCs and keep the service ammo for duty.
