S&W Model 19 purchase

Went with a friend to a gun show this morning. He was interested in buying his first handgun. He ended up buying a slightly used M19 (in very nice shape), 4" barrel. It came with a paddle holster, two Bianchi speed strips, a Galco 2x2x2 ammo pouch, and two boxes of 158 grn SWC ammo. All for $300 out the door. I didn't think it was a bad deal, considering the condition it was in.

Sounds like a good deal, I have the 4inch model 19 and feel it is one of the best compromises between size and strength. The model 19 is a classic and still has a very strong following.

Assuming that the M19 was in good shape and mechanically sound your friend did very good for a first purchase. I learned to shoot on a Model 15 and have always considered the S&W K-frames to be outstanding firearms.

Good deal. I've always preferred the "K" to the "L" for my S&W .357's. I probably shoot 50/50 .38 to .357 and can't say I've ever shot out a 19/66 over the years.

one of the best

the grand old model 19 is one of the best revolvers ever made...almost universally carried by LE people in my part of the world for a long while...replaced now by sigs or 1911's mostly..and the price you have for the weapona and rig is very good. enjoy it.

A 4" model 19 in really nice condition for $300 would be a very good deal here in the Peepul's Republik of Kalifornia. Most of the ones I've seen go for $350 and up even for a well used gun. A local shop had a 6" 1980 vintage gun for $449 and it had obviously seen lots of use. Tell your friend to consider all the "extras" he got in the deal as "freebies" and that he managed to get a bargain!

The dealer also had a 2.5" 66 for $325, which would have been my choice if I were in the market for a .357 right now. I thought my friend would be better served by a 4" for a first handgun. For a small local show, there were several good deals.

Sounds good to me. I have a 19-4, 4", nickle, Pachmeier grip. Sweet, sweet shooter. Very nice trigger.
