S&W model 19-9?

My dad has a friend with a S&W .357 revolver for sale. My dad said it' a model 19-9 but I can't find any similar models online... He doesn't have the best vision so it could be a mistake there:)

The serial number is K9835XX. Does anybody have an idea if there's actually a model 19-9, and a rough estimate on the value? It looks to be in good shape from the picture I saw. It's blued with a 4" barrel.

Thanks in advance!

Assuming the serial number is correct, it was produced in 1970. That would make it a Model 19-3, which was produced between 1967 and 1977.

Hope this helps.

As far as I know, there is no -9 variant of the M19. The last variation of the M19 before it was discontinued in 1999 was the 19-8.

Two things:
  • The "-9" marking is most likely a factory QA/QC screwup as the serial number dates to 1970. It is probably overstamped with a "-3" if you inspect it closely.
  • Without pictures, it's difficult to make a firm estimate of its value. Typical value for a M19-3 of this vintage, assuming decent finish, range from ~$375 for ~80% finish up to ~$700 for a like-new example in the uncommon factory wood presentation case. Typical value for a normal 90%-95% example is $450-$550.
