S&W Model 15-6

Went to my lgs yesterday to do some shooting at their indoor range, and when I was done took a look at the used gun case, and they had a S&W Model 15-6 four inch barrel for $375.00 it's blued and seemed tight.

Is that a good price? Should I have bought it?
Just wondering what y'all thought.
Thanks
Grant

It's basically a Model 10 with adjustable sights.

Buds has some pretty well-used (some have almost no bluing left) model 10s for a little over $300 before FFL transfer fees.

If it's in very good to excellent condition, its a really good deal.

It has a lot of wear, like a police trade in. Just wondered if it was worth buying, or waiting on a pinned and recessed model.
I think I'll go back at lunch tomorrow and take another look.

Personally, I'd go wave $300 case in front of him. If he doesn't immediately take it, write your number on a business card and leave it.

That's a good price. Where I live Model 10's are going for around $400.00 and Model 14s and 15's for considerably more than that.

The Combat Masterpiece was the forerunner of the Model 15. Just like the M & P was the forerunner of the Model 10.

That price is about what they are running in my area. I bought my Combat Masterpiece for a little under $300 but it's been a couple of years back. If it is tight - a little honest wear isn't going to affect how it shoots at all. They are great revolvers - personally, I'd snap it up if I didn't already have one. Like anything else - geographical area is going to affect the price some bur let's face it . prices don't go down (unless there is a big economic turn-down). It sounds like a fair price.

They are good shooters plus you have an adjustable sight system if you like them - something which a Model 10 does not have. I have a post-war 5" M & P which I enjoy shooting - it's an easy change over to my CM.

A lot of folks look for a CM or Model 15 and can't find them - you have one in front of you. If you get it, you'll never regret it! Good luck!

Just got back from lunch. Stopped by the shop and offered the manager $350.00 cash for it but he said he can't sell it that cheap cause they have to much in it.
So.. I emptied my wallet of all the cash and that came to $370.00 and told him with that he's taking my lunch money too! He laughed and said ok.

With tax it would have been about $407.00 so I saved about $36.00 using cash.
Someone took a pair of pliers to the extractor rod, so I guess I need to find one of those.

All in all though, I'm pretty pleased with it, even though it has Pachmyr grips on it.

Good purchase. If the rubber grips fit they're a good choice for a shooter and imho better than the originals.

Similar with the extractor, if it works don't worry about it.

After I got it home I took a little Flitz to it and it cleaned up pretty nice.
The only real damage is the end of the barrel and edge of the cylinder from normal holster wear.

I had bought a nickle model 19-5 awhile back and someone had put magna grips on it instead of target grips, so I bought some targets for it, and had the magna grips in my parts drawer.

They look good on the model 15-6.
A Tyler T Grip next??

Buzzcook..
The extractor rod looks like they took sandpaper to it because all the blue is gone, and the knurled end was ruined with pliers!and for ten bucks at Brownells that won't break the bank, and means I only have $380.00 invested in a nice looking model 15.

I think I'll take it, and the 19 to the range on Tues.

I like the T-grip on a S&W with Magna grips. Lately I've been buying the BK's but only because I can go to their website and order directly and pay with a CC or paypal. I usually get them in two or three days. They're about the same price as Tylers, look and work the same. Do a search for BK grip adapters if you're interested.

Here's one on a Model 28.

That's an excellent price on a Model 15 around here. I wouldn't worry about P&R on a gun I wanted just for shooting.

It seems their getting higher every month, I bought one years ago for a trail and small game gun but like a idiot traded it off on some other treasure I just had to have. I don't think you'd be sorry if you picked it up.

For my area, that was a very good price. Well worn 15s are going for $425 in my area, near mint examples are hitting $500.

My Model 15 is the most accurate revolver I have. I was able to get another for my son when a local gs and range was forceed out of business (that's another story.) He said it was exactly like the one he was issiued and carried when he served in SAC. It is also the most accurate pistol he has.
I know the price is right now.

I went to BK Grip adapters web site but it seems they only accept paypal and not credit cards. I sent them an e-mail, and still waiting to hear back from them.

Yesterday I received my package from Brownell's, but the envelope was torn open, and only the D spring for my Beretta 92FS was inside, the extractor rod must have fallen out during delivery.
I called them this morning and they are sending me another one no charge.

Still haven't had the time to shoot it yet. Maybe next week.

Don't be shocked if that rod requires a little fitting on the end to clear the catch under the barrel.

Install the new rod and, with a flat object, depress the end of the center pin in the extractor star fully. Hold it there.

Look at the ejector rod. The center pin should be flush, or protruding just a hair.

If its not flush, gently file or stone the end of the rod until it is. If you don't, it's a real pain to get the cylinder open.

I'm sorry. I always use paypal and just assumed they took CC also. And you know what happens when you "assume". It does make sense for a small business when I think about it.

Sorry for the mistake. Still a good product. :)
