S&W model 13

I came acoss a very nice S&W model 13, blued in excellent condition. Don't think it was fired very much. I've been wanting to get a Ruger double action in 357 for a while to go with my old Blackhawk, but Rugers are pretty scarce these days. Guy wants around $450 + tax. I do reload and shoot quite a bit. Your thoughts?? Thanks, HOOSIER

Sounds like a fair price for a gun in excellent condition.

If you want to shoot a lot of .357, wait for a Ruger double action though. The K frame Smiths usually have better actions, but they aren't as durable.

I'd bite on it too, especially since you reload. You can roll some loads that are a tad under standard 158gr loads the pistol was intended to digest- and have no worries.

There're folks on here who's fired thousands of standard rounds through their 19's and 13's and haven't seen the slightest signs of worry.

I love my 13-2, and wish like the dickens that I had one with a 3" bbl.

I love K-frames. My 3" S&W 65LS is one of my favorite guns (and one of two or three I will never sell under any circumstances). I greatly miss my 4" P&R S&W 19 I stupidly sold a few years ago. The 3" S&W 13 is my holy grail- if I could find one at a reasonable price I would practically cut off my left arm to get it if I could. A 4" S&W 13 isn't quite as attractive to me, but any 13 is rare enough to find for sale that I'd jump on one priced as attractively as the one you have found (assuming I had the money to spare at the time).

We have two RB M13 3"s. Assuming that it is as you describe, I'd try to find a way to scrape up the 450 toll for a third.

Another way to look at it, I wouldn't sell mine for $450.

I have a 3" Model 13, that was an unfired safe queen at the time I bought it. It is no longer unfired nor a safe queen... but in the condition it was in at purchase, I paid a little over $600.

If the OP found a nice 3" 13 at $450, I'd definitely pounce on it.

If it's a 4", then the price is ok, and most likely still worth buying.

In the case of my 3" (and yes, Chaim and 10-96, they really are nice, you are right to want one), I pulled the stock hammer and original stocks, and put them in the original box. Bought a bobbed hammer and had it installed, then mounted some round Ahrends finger-grooves. Makes a very, very nice carry gun, when I am in a revolver mood.

Cast VS Forged, the two are not equal strength. the reason Ruger's are so hefty is that you NEED that with cast steel.

I would not sell my 3" Model 13 for $450 either. The Smith K frame will take many thousands of rounds before it needs any work. We had some old model 19's from the 70's with tens of thousands of rounds thru them and they were still tighter than the GP 100's the rookies were showing up with.

I have and carry a 4" and a 3" model 13. I've had my 4 for years and has been the most accurate handgun I own. Recently I had a friend call and ask if I would be interested in a 3". Went on to tell me it was unfixed and the guy wanted $350. By the time I paid gun, shipping, transfer and tip to my friend I have $420. It came in as described and I drove straight to the range and put it through the paces and begin to carry it. I did that because i often buy something and think it's too nice to carry and turn around a quick sale. I wouldn't take a $100 profit for it nor would I consider it. I think for a aiwb or carried at 4 o clock it doesn't get any better.

Is that the one in Indy being sold by a guy named Jason ? I bought a Taurus from the seller on Sunday, honest, stand up guy. $450 is a fair price BUT I would offer $425-$430 and see how it goes.
The 13 is a PERFECT gun.
