S&W Model 10 Snub: How did I do?

The other day I picked up a square-butt S&W M10-5 snub. The gun is in very nice shape with only slight bluing wear at the muzzle and around the edges. Bore and chambers are excellent, lockup is tight, and there is only a very slight turn ring on the cylinder. It wears a set of factory Magnas which have no discernible blemishes. I paid $399, how does TFL think I did on the price? I'm inclined to think it was at least fair because I haven't seen a nice M10 (i.e. without significant finish wear) for under $400 in a few years now.

I follow four inch Model 10 prices closely and I don't have any interest whatsoever in snubs... but I have no doubt at all that you did extremely well on price. There must be 15 four inch M10's for every snub they ever made. No doubt they go for more cash.

I love when folks love guns! But myself... Just can't fall in love with short barreled revolvers. Pretty much don't have much interest in any small guns. But your price was great.

Not bad. About what I would have expected to pay for one my LGS had in thier case a few days ago, tagged about $450.00 or so. It sounds like yours might be in a little better shape, but the one at the LGS wasn't too bad.

I usually figure they'll take at least 10% off after it's been in the case a few days.

IMWO you paid about retail.

I have a square butt 10-5 that I got from a pawn shop about 15 years ago on a whim. Had it dressed up a mite just for fun.

You did very well, Grasshopper... :)

I'm not sure what's happening with prices lately, as I've quit going to gunshows in Northern Virginia, but last snub 10 I saw was $600 and change, IIRC, about 3 years ago.

I think you did fine on the price. That's about what they would go for in my area. 4" 10's have been bringing around $350.00 or so from what I've seen. I have a M & P and a CM so I've passed on the 4" ones that I've seen. The snub would bring a bit more. At $400, I'd snap one up in the shape you describe. There's nothing like a good k frame and I wouldn't mind having one for carry once in a while. Congrats on your find and enjoy it! You did just fine! :)
