I have gotten different answers on this qustion: I have a 1956-7
S&W .38 Special. A friend of mine wants to split the cost of a 1000 rnds. of .38 Special +P Winchester. His Model 10 is nearly new and rated for +P. Is it completely verbotten to fire this higher pressure ammo in an older Model 10? Could I fire this load occasionally, or
"KABOOM" not at all? Thanks!

Completely verboten? No. But perhaps not a good idea for extensive shooting, meaning a lot more than 500 rounds. +P+ is a definite no-no.

Agree with Jim Keenan.

Suggest lookin at specs and seeing if you can't find the performance you desire in a standard pressure load.

Some of my 10s have had over 100,000 rounds through em, I want to keep em healthy for the great grand kids.
