It pays to check the pawn shops regularly.

I hadn’t been to one of the pawn shops I frequent in a few weeks.
The last few weeks have been uneventful.
Not so today. Fortunately, I scored this one before it got scooped up.

It was just put out in the display within the last few days.
I saw it right away; no since acting like I was slightly interested. I’m a regular there and S&W addicted.

It’s got a couple light lines/marks on the side plate but other than that, in great condition.
It appears to be shot very little, there was no buildup in the end of the cylinders and the barrel look clean.

I told the gal that usually helps me that the hang tag price of $899 was way out of line.
She says; you know the drill make an offer. So I counter with $525, she checks and say’s she can do $550.
I said break out the 4473.

It came with box, papers, tools, but no original stocks (easy fix).

Ditto. I saw some poor guy sell one like that to a dealer at at show for 325. I wanted to yell NOOOOOO - but I couldn't leap across the tables.

Congrats.

Man I got to find some new pawn shops. The only ones around me seem to specialize primarily in badly overpriced worn out junk.

Beautiful. 66's just have a "look" about them. I kinda like the grips btw.

I bet it would handle really nice shooting +P's (IMO).

Sweet.

Have you thought about what loads you want to run through It?More on the practice load side.......Got any nice .38 Sp loads planned?

I reload so it will get mostly mild 357 loads for range work.
It's going to be my ATV ride gun so then it will get something a little stronger.

My carry gun will always remain a 1911.

Wow, that is a nice one.. and at a nice price too. In my neck of the woods, they could have easily gotten closer to their original asking price than what you ended up paying. I always felt that the 2.5" barrel model 19/66 were some of the best looking guns produced.

That's a more than fair price on that piece. Around here that gun would command a higher price. Nice purchase.

jlsprings Have you had a chance to shoot it yet?

I had it out this last Saturday, mostly for a test drive. I didn't do much for accuracy. Had to adjust the sights, the were off a bit. By the time I was done, it was getting hot and I was tired. My best target was baseball size group at 7 yards.

I shot mostly my mild hand loads. I shot some 38 special Federal SD loads and recoil was very manageable. The full house loads however, were not very pleasant. I rarely shoot them even in full size guns, and I was reminded why.

After I got it all cleaned up and gave it a good going over, I discovered it had considerable endshake, couldn't tell earlier because all the crud in the cylinder and yoke barrel. I noticed that the cylinder was just kissing the end of the barrel.

I fixed that tonight. The end of the yoke tube was way out of square, only contacting about 10%. After I got it squared up, so that it contacted 100%, I added 8 thousands in shims and the endshake was all gone and no more cylinder kissing the barrel.

It's ready for another trip to the range, this time for some serious accuracy work.

You got a "kick ass deal"! The one I just got on "Gun Broke Me", cost $775! $35 shipping, $25 transfer, and $5 for the obligatory dumb ass background check! $840 for a handgun! Oh, 4got to add another $140 for a NOS target hammer &target trigger, and $40 to have the gunsmith install them. Now it's $1020. Then another $64 for a set of Badger grips on ebay. Now it's $1084, and about $30 for 2 sets of Hogue finger groove rubber grips that I never even put on the gun. Gave them to the gunsmith. So now the total is $1114! How absolutely nuts is that? !!! I need to go to a shrink! It's a good thing I don't have a wife and children! I only have me to answer to for my assine mistakes. I've spent all that money and still don't really have the gun! I'm bringing the trigger to the gunsmith 2day and will take it home 2day. Probably won't ever fire it 'cause it's too pretty and don't want to dirty it. Then i'll have to clean it. Used to love cleaning my guns after shooting them. Not any more! Now it's just another chore. Just remembered that I'll have to get a holster which will be between $70-100, or more. Then they'll be ammo that I'll have to stock up on. So I might as well round out the total cost to $1500 when all is said and done! That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard!! I must be an idiot! So your $550 is nothing!

You got a great deal on that one!

Bought my Model 66-2 with 2 1/2 barrel around 1986 new for $275.00
It's one of my handguns I will never sell.
