just purchased a mod 12-2 airweight 38spc. for 250.00 it is about 98% is this a good deal? and can I shoot +p in sometimes

You should call S&W for the official answer to your +P question. Personally, I would have no problem firing a few (12) rounds of +P to make sure they group adequately and carrying +P, but I would recommend that you find out what S&W says to do and then make your decisions based on that and not what I or anyone else on a gunboard thinks.

Pricewise, that sounds like a good deal for a 12-2 in that condition! I would have bought it, too. Neat! :)

The S&W model 12 was made from 1952 to 1986, and 'bout a 98 per
center would bring in $275.00*; as per Standard Catalog Of S&W by Supica & Nahas.

*FootNote: slight premium for nickel

Best Wishes,

Depends on the age, and more importantly, the cylinder.

There are still some on the civilian market with aluminum cylinders. Quite frankly, these shouldn't be shot at all.

The 12-2 is fairly rare- that is very reasonable price!
A few +p's for sighting in and then in the gun for defense would be fine -in a 12-2. I would take it easy on the gun generally because while a REAL nice carry piece it IS on the fragile side.

Modified K frame.

The backstrap is slightly thinner than with other K-frames, which can make finding grips a bit difficult.

The aluminum cylinder was dropped in 1954, before model numbering, and the 12-2 came out in 1962, so the cylinder should not be an issue.
