got a nice mod 10 4 inch heavey bbl in on a trade. not realy a rvolver guy but I would'nt mind having a snub gun or 3inch bbl. anyone know where to get a bbl. used is the way i want to go thanks. ps I know a snub bbl will require changeing the ejector rod.
 
If it's a "nice" model 10 4" HB don't screw it up with a barrel change. If you want a short barrel, sell the 10, and put the money toward something you want.



(exception to rule #1 below. Sell what ya got before you screw up a nice gun trying to make it something ya want!)
 
Model 10s are plentiful enough that you can find a snubbie version.

My LGS gets them in fairly regularly.

Converting a 4" won't be worth the time and expense. Plus, they're great guns in their own right. I consider them to be under-appreciated classics.

If I remember right...no guarantee...the ejector rod on the 4" Mod10 is longer than on the snub 1 7/8" barrels.

It's more than a barrel change you'll have to do.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
 
I'd just keep my eyes open and watch for a 3 inch barreled gun. they show up from time to time and it will most likely be far cheaper than modifying an existing gun. 3 inch Smiths arent' THAT uncommon.
It took me several years to find, but I LOVE my 3 inch barreled Detective Special.
 
I've been carrying guns, of all types, for over 37 years. I've never found a short barrel gun to be easier to carry but they are always harder to shoot.
 
To each his own.
I find 4 inch barrels to be bothersome and 6 inch barrels intolerable for concealed carry. I much prefer 3 inch guns though 2 inch guns are good. At "bad breath" distance I can't detect ANY difference in my ability to hit a man sized target.
 
Historically your Model 10 is an important gun. They were the 9 of their day. All cops were trained with them and they were standard issue guns for decades. The military used them and I was issued one to carry in my torso harness during the VN War. Most of us bought High Powers tho. We were issued flare rounds with the model 10, to signal with, no one considered ever actually shooting anyone with one.

They are, however; nice easy to carry pistols as issued and I like mine.
 
Jack19 is right to a point. If you change it to a 2" barrel the ejector rod will be too long. If you change it to a 3" barrel you should be fine. However why would you mess up a perfectly good defensive revolver? I have a 4" 10HB and love it. I carried mine for a few years as my duty gun and never had a problem with it and it shot to point of aim easily. If you want a shorter barrel get a 10 with a shorter barrel. Also a 4" Model 10HB isn't all that difficult to conceal. All it takes is the right holster and clothing combination. I conceal a 4" Colt Python with no trouble quite regularly.
