S&W M64 and Glock 17

After much research & shooting I've decided my 1st 2 pistols will be a Glock17 and a Smith & Wesson M64 .38 revolver. The wife likes the easiness of loading & shooting the .38, I like the capacity & accurateness of the 17. Couldn't decide between the two, so both are on their way.
Any thoughts?

Both solid guns with a long history of law enforcement service. You could have done a lot worse.

I'd feel well-armed with either one.

I have a first gen Glock 17 that has never hiccupped once in over 10 years. I tend to point Glocks naturally, I know some people don't like the grip angle, but it really fits my hand and I shoot them very well. I now have a Glock 30 that is my daily carry gun and I love it. I am not much of a wheel gun guy so I will let some one else comment on that one....though I have been having thoughts about a .45 ACP wheel gun. There is something about moon clips that I dig, not sure why.

The G17 is a great choice. Good accuracy, excellent durable, trigger pull seems just about right, easy to clean, totally proven track record. As a 9mm, the cost of ammo isn't prohibitive.

Great choice, I have both, my model 64-3 is one of the most accurate revolvers that I own. When my friends shoot it they are amazed. I chose the the Glock 17's little brother the 19, it is dependable accurate, and points very well.

good call

They are both great guns!

I'd go with the S&W since your wife can handle it as well!
Glock's grip may be a bit too chunky for her.

You can't go wrong with a wheel gun -- super reliable.

As a former Glock 17 owner and a current Glock 19 owner, I just have to ask, if you are into accuracy, have you ever fired a 1911 pistol?
It has a far better trigger than the Glock....

Good thinking though....

.38 ought to be as easy to find as 9MM! I would hope so. The nice thing about the revolver is you can play around with different grips to fit your hand best or whoever. The Glock gives you one choice pretty much. Well you can get things that wrap around the Glock grip, for no slip hold, but they can only make it bigger. And you get the revolver, that's it, no extra mags to hunt for! But you can get speedloaders, which are cheaper than factory mags any day.

You've noticed a scarcity of .38 ammo, too? I thought it was just my area, or some anomaly. I don't have anything that fires .38 or .357, so it's not a problem, but I did notice that it was strangely missing in many places I've hunted ammo or components.

Have fun shooting!

Well I've got the M64, but due to the scarcity of Glocks in my area, I bought a S&W M&P 9c (which will be my concealed) and love 'em both. Been stocking up on range ammo for both. Give up on Wallyworld & Dick's; ordering online or buying at local gun dealers is the best source these days.
