S&W M19 & M66 Questions???

I have a S&W Model 19-3 and Model 66-1. Both revolvers were carried as duty weapons at some point,in my fathers 28 years of service as a policeman.
Both revolvers are still in the original S&W boxes. The M19 box has a stamp on it " Received June 9th, 1975". The M66 box has a stamp "Received July 27th, 1979". I was wondering if anybody here could tell me what year the Revolvers were manufactured. The M19 has a serial number of 7K286xx. The M66 has a serial number of 37K63xx. The M66 was given to me about 20 years ago as a Christmas present. A great christmas present for an 18 year old. I purchased the M19 from my father a few years later. Both weapons have 4" barrels. I enjoy shooting them both.

Thanks in advance for any help or opinions you may have.

Ala Dan has given you his usual great information regarding the birth dates of your revolvers. The only way to get better information would be to send a history request to Roy Jinks and get a personalized letter on each of your father's guns. Given that they are heirlooms of a sort, this may be something to seriously consider.

Many people consider the M19/66 revolvers to be some of the best around. I have (more than) one of each and my experience supports this opinion.

These two revolvers are very much heirlooms. My father died in December of 1998. I became the heir of all his guns, including the S&W Model 669, which was that last weapon he carried before retiring in 1991. Thanks for the information Ala Dan. I always wondered if the dates on the boxes matched the dates of manufacture.
