Smith & Wesson(4-inch)M19-3:

1)Is $450 too much to pay(Even here in the PRK?)for this gun, in like new condition(Although, lightly fired!)with box(But, no owner's manual)?

2)Is the M19-3, too "Common"(In the 4" barrel!)to be considered much of a collectible?

3)Which would be the most desireable(And, popular?)to purchase(Both in the same condition!): The(Above)described M19-3 or an M13-4?

I see em here in Az for about $350 in that condition.
Depends upon how bad you want it, I usually want em bad, so I pay more than I should.

If I read your post correctly, you can get a M13-4 in CA. No debate. $450.00 for a M13-4 in CA is a good deal. You can look for a M19 later.

S&W M13-4 VS M19-3?

Sir William:

1)Is it just the M13-4, that you would pick over the M19-3(Or, any M13?)?

2)What is it about the M13-4, that makes it a better deal(For $450)than the same price for the M19-3? Are these more rare(Than is the M19-3)?

Given a choice, I would grab a M13-anything over any M19. They are a special breed. There were more M19s made in all forms than M13s. If I were told I could get one or the other, I would take the M13. Marko, Tamara and others have primo M13s and even PC M13s. I have a M19-4 coming. I had a chance to buy a M15 and chose the M19 over it. Had the choice been a M13 and a M19? M13, no debate. Great revolver and the first generation of S&W 357 Magnum for the masses.

I have a M19-3 nickel plated. It is the most accurate revolver I have. My 686-4 comes in a very close 2nd.

My 19-3 was $395 at the recent gun show in Valley Forge, PA

$450 seems a bit steep for a good 19, but it depends on how bad you want it. The market I'm in may be a bit different as well, although the errornet tends to moderate differences these days. I got my 19-5 for sub-$300 at my local shop, where I find the prices are as low as anywhere, but it may be that the PRK premium is higher than I thought. YMMV.

Gee, I'd better stop griping about prices here. A good model 19 between 250.00-350.00. A good 13, 200.00-300.00. In my experience, all things being equal a S&W with adjustable sights brings more than a fixed sight revolver.

I just bought a 99% very nice M19 made in 1973 on gunsamerica for $325. Great gun with the original grips. I thought it was a very fair price for both of us.

IMO, if you are a semi guy and enjoy quality semis, just about any revolver is cheaper of equal or better quality. (I use term "quality" very loosely)...I hope you understand what I am trying to say.

Depends on what part of the PRK you're in. Around here (Fresno) really nice 19's go for around $400.00. I saw a beautiful 2 1/2" 19 at a gun showe earlier this month for $400.00 otd.

Non-roster guns?

I've just been over the CA roster of approved handguns 3 times and can't find either one on the list.

Am I missing something?
If I'm not, then the only way you can possibly buy one is a private-party transfer from some CA resident who has one.

That makes it worth whatever the market will bear, and prices in other parts of the country are not relevant to the matter.

Hey, Gang, I'm a newby here.
Straighten us out, will you?

S&W M19-3(4-inch): Is $450 too much(Even in the PRK)?

Old Fud:

Yes, the S&W M19-3(In question)in the PRK, is a private party transfer(For $450)!

I have been having trouble deciding to buy this M19-3 or a "Rare" Ruger Single Six, "Bisley" in .32 magnum(For $350)? Both in the same LNIB condition? This is also a PPT. Decisions! Decisions!

Hopefully you went ahead and bought it. You're getting opinions from some people who aren't in California that the price is too high. That is like trying to price California real estate based upon what houses sell for in Indiana. It can't be done.

Fact: pinned Smiths are drying up in the state. Fact: there are people such as myself who are looking for available pinned Smiths. Fact: in three years, for example, there are going to be veeeeeeeeeeeeerrry few decent Smiths on the market in California.

My guess is that if you're looking at economics, in two years the gun will bring a hefty profit. Buy it.

Seriously, though, if you do not, please tell me where the gun is. I want it. And I just bought a 99% 19-3 with a six inch barrel for $379. I, too, was told on another board that the price was too high.
