Got a call from the LGS on Wednesday morning, said he just got a like new barely fired 10-5.
Told him I’d be there this afternoon. Nothing like a New Year’s Eve purchase to kick off the New Year.

So I went and checked it out. Sure enough basically just test fired.
Clean and no cosmetic issues at all.
One form 4473 and $375 and I was out the door with my first model 10.

Details:
Blued Model 10-5
4 inch pencil barrel
DOB ~ 1967
No papers or tools
Did get (not for this gun) model 10 blue box with metal corners

Very nice piece. About 15 years ago I saw a 2" M10-5 in a pawn shop for $150. I had never owned a 2" K frame at that time so I bagged it. A few years later my wife sent it out and had it gussied up a bit as a 50th birthday present. I agree that everyone should have at least one Model 10.

Exquisite, sir.

What a beauty! First S&W I ever shot was a 4" model 10. With cheap LRN I had ten rounds touching in a 1.5" bullseye.

Very classy, and with that barrel and the original wood on it, it looks very much "period correct." I must say though, as a huge fan and active shooter of K-frames, I simply cannot shoot well or comfortably with those original magna stocks, not at all.

Back in that revolver's heyday (and later), the Tyler T-grip (and similar offerings from other companies) filled the large gap present between the too-small stocks and rear space behind the trigger guard. Just as often, folks mounted different aftermarket wood on them, Herrett's was a very popular one.

So it is no crime if you should find that it doesn't sit well in your shooting hands as it runs right now. I love to outfit all of my K-frame revolvers with aftermarket grips.

Terrific handgun and perfect choice for your first Model 10.

Yep the stocks are original to the gun.
And, they are not made for comfortable/accurate shooting.

It will get something more comfortable and make for more accurate shooting.

Now that's a fine looking Model 10. :D

I agree that the Magna stocks aren't the most comfortable for shooting, but I love that retro look. If you want to keep that, try a Tylers T-grip (or a BK grip).

Here's a set on one of my Model 15's.

Tylers are aluminum, and take a little longer to get. BK's are made of some kind of plastic/resin material. The last ones I ordered got to me in about a week. Cost is about the same, around $25.00.

What more can be said about a K frame M & P / Model 10? Sigh . . . the perfect all around handgun!

Congrats on your new baby - very nice! I'd have snatched that up too! Have fun and enjoy! :)

Nice find, and great price. I would have jumped on that deal for something to complement my 10-6 Heavy Barrel.
You wouldn't pry this 43 year old, like new S&W from my hands for any price! Even if I only paid $86.50 for it brand new.:D
