S&W M&P Slide Question

I have a S&W M&P9 "Performance Center" and absolutely love it. my only problem is I got the shorter barrel (4.25" long). Now I'm kinda feeling like I want to build a really nice, long barreled target gun with a comp and everything. Does anyone (including S&W) make a slide 5"-6" long that I could buy and put on my current frame?

I'm running a S&W M&P9 "Performance Center" with...
*Red Apex flat faced forward set sear trigger assembly
*Apex R.A.M. (reset assist mechanism)
*Catalyst extended mag release
*Streamlight TLR-1 HL

I have a lot more plans for it but I'd like to buy a new slide (if nothing else I'd be willing to pick up a standard length slide so I can put some TFX sights on it.

S&W makes a 5"bbl long-slide M&P. Have you called them?

Keep in mind that one of the points of lockup on the M&P is between the top front of the barrel and the hole in the slide, so the barrel and slide must coincide, or proper function will be denied. ;)

Honestly a 5" or 5"+ barrel can be found easliy, same with most of the other parts located in the slide. The problem I've run into is actually finding a slide itself to house all the parts in. I'll see if I can e-mail S&W about buying a slide and see what they say. Hopefully it's not to expensive.

Find then buy a M&P Pro or 9L upper. I know of no aftermarket slide.

OR, check out the current fad of a "sight tracker." Put in a longer threaded barrel and screw on a muzzle weight with dovetail for sight. It is not a compensator with gas handling baffles and ports, just a weight to slow down the action and extend the sight radius. Here is one in the works:

Taylor Freelance makes them for Glocks, I cannot find a factory made "sight block" for Smith.

What do you hope to gain from an extra .75" or so of barrel?

It sounds as though you've already done some of the more sensible upgrades, but, you didn't mention sights.

While a longer barrel could make it a bit easier for you to hit the target due to the slightly (15%) longer sight radius, the gun itself won't be any more accurate if the old barrel locked up properly.

Better sights could do that (i.e., make it a bit easier for you to hit the target) just as well or better -- and might give you more bang for your $buck.
