S&W M&P 15-22 Optics?

Getting a S&W M&P 15-22 next week, first thing I want to get for the rifle is optics. The gun will be used as a plinker at, on average, 50-100 yards. The closest range to me has only two sides to it. A 50 yard range and a 100 yard range. So it'll probably never get shot much more than that distance.

I'm pretty much open to anything, red-dots, scopes, whatever. I do like magnification though. I've been leaning toward a 3x9 or a 4x12 if I go the scope route. More or less because I have an eye problem and it's easier for me to see with magnification.

I'm wanting to keep a 'tight budget' on the scope, again, it's for plinking purposes only... so $50-100 if I can find something worth having at that price range.

I would really appreciate any suggestions on this topic. Y'all have a good one....

I put a vortex strikefire on mine. There a good rugged redot. Only consession they make to a aimpoint is the battery life isnt good enough to be left on all the time but its still pretty decent. I wouldnt put one on a self defense gun because of it and the fact they have an timed out shut off on them. My self defense guns i want on all the time and dont want to grab one and have to fumble with turning on a sight. Ive had the votex on it for two years now and its held up great. If you get one look for the red only model as the red/green model has a less bright dot and it washes out in bright light. For what they charge for them there a real bargin. You can pick one up with a mount for the price of an aimpoint mount.

I put a cheap Tasco scope (3x9 IIRC) on my S&W M&P AR15 5.56mm MOE. I had to use a 1" riser and see-through rings to lift it above my irons. I'm not a bad shot and can get some pretty tight groupings (around 2" or less) at 100 yards down the range. It does what I need to and holds its zero well even on a 5.56 so it should hold up at least as well on the .22 M&P. They cost around $30-40 at Walmart. You could spend more but for plinking, I don't see why you'd need to...?

I put a Bushnell Trophy red dot on mine. Picked it up online for $125.00

I took delivery of a Performance Center MP15-22 yesterday. When I checked the bore it looked terrible. I attempted to clean it with Shooters Choice Lead Remover and a Deweys bore brush. The first time I tried to get a patch through it I had to use a .177 rod because the .22 rod would not fit. After 8 hours of lead removal it still was not clean. The chamber still has 2 big lumps of lead in it and there are ribbons of lead down the rifling. I have called Smith and Wesson a dozen times and finally managed to talk to a human being twice and there has NOT been on offer to do anything about this rifle. The dealer I bought it from is a one man shop and he had the rifle a week. He says he never shoots new guns and no one else has access. The transfer dealer does not have a range and they had the rifle for an hour and a half. This rifle was shipped from Smith & Wesson the way I received it. It needs a new barrel and I have not fired it yet. I am not sure I want another S&W firearm. I have 5 other Performance Center firearms, but if this is what comes out of the shop now I don’t want anymore.
