S&w K-22

I read an article in the current issue of Combat Handguns on a new S&W K-22 called model 17-8 Heritage K-22.

The writer wrote that this gun is a faithful reproduction of the classic rimfire original with some modern day enhancements.

I'm very interested in this gun now but I don't even see it listed on their web site.

Could someone direct me to online resources on this new gun from S&W because I'd like to purchase one for my collection.

I have an early 1980's K-22 that is probably my most accurate handgun. Although the S&W website does not show it, I'm sure the "modern enhancments" they talk about are the addition of a cheesy PC lock.....

I don't consider a round butt & case hardened frame on a K-22 a "faithful reproduction", but that's my opinion.

The real thing...1951 vintage

Does anyone know

about a model 17-1 might be worth. It is LNIB and was given to me as a dift to hold for my son. It appears to have been fired very little and has the code S8-ST-CT-FL and the serial number on the box label.

Only Combat Handguns would consider this monstrosity to be a "faithful" reproduction.

The gun was never offered with a round butt.

The offered grips are COMPLETELY wrong.

It was never offered with what Smith calls a "color case hardened" frame, but which actually looks like a college student puked on it.

Originals had a pinned barrel and were 5-screw, but that's incidental.

But, Combat Handguns has proven that it's willing to be S&W's media whore, so I'm not surprised.

To answer your question

Your dealer can order them via the distibutor www.lewhorton.com However, the best price right now seems to be www.cdnninvestments.com @$699.99.

I would strongly encourage you to buy used. Not just because of the agreement, but I feel that you would be getting a better gun, as well as saving at least half that amount of money, or more.;)

ROTFLMAO...L O L....MIKE'S DESCRIPTION IS PRICELESS

TALKING TO A PAL OF MINE AT S+W...
' HOW CAN YOU CALL THIS EFFIN MONSTROSITY A HERITAGE MODEL? WHO'S EFFIN HERITAGE ARE WE SUPPOSED TO BE COMMERATING? COLT....IVER JOHNSON...? '
" GEE THANKS MURBACH. I CAN SEE YOU'RE IN A GOOD MOOD THIS MORNING, NOW DON'T GET ME GOIN' ON THOSE UGLY EFFIN GUNS OKAY!!!! " [ WITH A REALLY SURLY SNARL IN HIS VOICE ]

OOOOOOKAY, I WON'T

Because of CA law I won't be able to purchase a Colt Diamondback nor S&W M-17/K-22 from a dealer or out of state. It'll have to be from a private party transaction and that'll be more difficult as I want to get it before the year is over. Time is against me. I might have to just settle for the current crop of vintage looking .22LR revolvers out on the market.

What I see are the Ruger New Single Six and Ruger New Bearcat. They look very similar. Looks like the New Bearcat has a steel colored hammer and trigger while the New Single Six is all blued steel.

Are there any other difference? Are both SA only guns and barrels do not swing-out? I'm not sure which one to get now.

I saw several, used, at the gunshow this past weekend, going for around $400-$450. Bought mine around 17 years ago, my first real (not BB or Pellet) handgun after I turned 21, for just over $200. Not a bad investment, huh? This has been a very accurate and fine shooting gun.

"And they will sell a few to the non careing."

I won't buy one, but I like it. I would buy one if I had an infinite amount of cash lying around. I am not hung up on the authenticity of it. I have one just like Frenchy. A new variation of it wouldn't be all bad. I just don't care.

GGlock,
You can legally buy a 50+ year old k 22 (C&R) from out of state and take possession of it at your dealer.

I have owned my K22 since 1967 when it was bought new and it is one of my most prized possessions. Frenchy it looks exactly like the one in the pic that you posted...

How many rounds does the M17 (K-22) hold? 6 rounds?

I'm thinking of buying a S&W 617 instead with 4" barrel because it can hold 10 rounds.

Isn't the 617 the modern day version to the K-22? If I swap the Hogue rubber grips with squared butt wooden grips, it can be a good looking gun.

It may not be a K-22, but it's pretty close right?

A few years ago Smith made a 10 shot 22's with aluminum cylinders. I had one (blued) which I sold as soon as I realized the cylinder was not steel. It was accurate, but I was real uninterested in finding out how long it would last.

The alloy cylinders caused an outcry, and Smith discontinued them after only a year or so. On stainless guns, it's easy to tell the alloy cylinders, because they don't match the stainless. It's tougher on the blued ones.

Newer 10 shot 617's are pretty neat guns, I was thinking hard about getting one myself, but they're not cheap. When this vintage K22 turned up for $200 it was a no brainer, even if it only holds six shots.

Look closely on the grip frame of your 617 - I understand all new Smith have round butts, so you'll have to get grips that match the new style frame.

People like Herretts and Hogue still make wood grips for Smiths, and Smith sells them online, too.:)

10 shot handy for plinkin, huntin rats etc.

6 shot more practical for serious target work. A little beefier and the drill can be the same as your other target wheelguns....if applicable.
