I have a Smith & Wesson revolver, 22 long rifle the modle # stamped in the frame is 48. stamped over the top of the 48 is 17-3. can any one put some light on the double stamped modle number. I would also be interested in what this modle of hand gun is worth$$

It's a Model 17-3. Made somewhere between 1967 and 1977. According to Supica & Nahas its value is anywhere between $85 and $400, depending on condition...

You have a model 17, K22 Masterpiece. The "-3" is the Engineering & production number. The "48" would most likely be an assembly code number. It was produced between 1967 & 1977.
