S&W Education

Well, I just purchased a mint M28-2 4" and love it. My wife does too.... :p Anyway, she wants her own but with a smaller grip and a tad lighter.

Here is where the education comes in... I am fairly new to handguns and am told that my Smith is an N-frame. Is my same gun (ergonomically) available in the other smaller frames? When you go to a smaller frame, are all dimensions smaller or just certain ones?

School is in session.

Thanks,

The next smaller frame size is the L; then the K, then the J. The K and L grip sizes are basically the same; there is quite a difference in handling between round butt and square butt configuration. You need to go to a good gun store and let your wife handle a few different models.

Yeah, probably the way to go is to try a four inch 586/686 (L frame) and then a 19/66 (K frame). I find the L frame to be the superior target revolver but I have to admit the 19 feels like magic in my hands. I love my N frame's but a four inch M19 is a better handling gun. Easy to carry. Faster to move from target to target. The darn thing just feels right to me. The only other similiar gun that feels that perfect to me is the original Ruger Security Sixes. Same basic size.

So go to a range where they rent guns or find some gun friends that will let you fire some of their collection!

Let your wife try a 686 with round butt Hogue COMPACT grips-the absolutely perfect combination for small hands.
